Someone better at math should figure out the required ROI to break even at 40% markup with the wsop rake schedule at 1Ks. Assume you need to be potripper
It’s not investing, it’s gambling. The markup police are the same people telling bad players at the poker table how bad they are and killing action.
They’re the same people telling players which tournaments are charging higher rake.
It’s a little different from that I think.
Using your line of reasoning, writing poker books is killing action. And it technically may be, but I don’t think that’s something to get mad at a poker writer about.
Been watching poker vlogs in anticipation of a Vegas trip. My thoughts:
Mariano: this guy is really good, super balanced and not afraid to run massive bluffs, also great at sizing.
Rampage: seems like a pretty mediocre player running super hot. Doesn’t seem to account for what other people have very well, and is over aggressive.
Brad: whatever, he seems to be getting better and more balanced, but would not be afraid to play him at all.
General thought from watching these: I need to call river more.
The markup police for some reason think it’s a positive to try to drive down what people are able to get for markup. It’s so incredibly illogical to do so. Their argument is that the player should only be able to charge at a rate that is good for the investor, why? Why can’t they instead charge at rates that are good for them? Why shouldn’t they be able to charge at a rate where they don’t have to share the ROI equally with their staker while eating 100% of the travel expenses involved? Why are we talking about something like it’s an investment when it’s gambling? It doesn’t need to provide a return comparable to investments, it just needs to provide a rate that someone considers it worth gambling on.
If making a -EV gamble in a poker player is such a bad idea that they feel the need to publicly ridicule players for the markup they ask, shouldn’t they also be discouraging the majority of the tournament field from buying into the tournament to begin with? Shouldn’t they be tirelessly chasing people away from slot machines and table games?
I’ll take your word for it on their motivations, because as I’ve made clear, I’ve got no idea what I’m talking about here. But my impression was that they were just pointing and laughing more than anything else.
That’s a hell of a leak to have for someone named Riverman.
Pretty decent summation. They’ve all improved quite a bit since they started, Rampage was like lol bad at 1/3 over a year ago and went on an insane heater.
Some of the Markup Police are/were fairly big investors. Depressing the overall market let them get better prices for the packages they bought.
Or, in Timex’s case, he eventually built a website that let people make long or short bets on tourney players, so on some level he probably just liked kicking up debate to drive action to his site.
We’ve really went this long before pointing out that the markup police are jumping on this one mostly as a way to flex their misogyny.

This is of course patently untrue. Many less than great players have sold at 2.0+ and even 3.0+ in mtts before. Right now on GG poker you can buy action directly on the site at 1.8 of a player in a field where the very best pros have an ROI of 15%. Hellmuth today released a package of 2 25ks and a 100k in which he is likely -ev in that he’s selling at 1.3. 1.2-1.4 in the grand scheme of one-off poker markup scandals doesn’t even register. You should think about why this particular tweet went viral and triggered so many people including yourself.
Lol ok buddy
She literally did have an onlyfans though (might have been one of the cam sites, but whatever). I’ve got nothing against her, but she probably has literally made more money off of onlyfans than poker. She’s firing a package worth 2x her career tournament earnings!
If I had a larger platform online I probably wouldn’t make those tweets, but I also got banned for calling Katie Hopkins a piece of shit, so…
Embarrassing by Gman
it’s also a double down on him being a total asshole to her on stream (and behind her back while the cameras were rolling) in a scenario where she did nothing wrong.
Never bought gman’s act and can’t say i’m surprised.
What in gods name does her having an onlyfans have to do with any of this? Come on guys that is just straight up sex work shaming and pure misogyny. Do sex workers automatically get a 0.2 markdown for moral violation! Yikes!
It’s obviously a dumb cheap shot, but I dont think Kade or would get the same hatred.
Sure - it’s obviously a terrible deal to buy a piece of her. But as mentioned tons of “pros” sell pieces at a worse mark-up and get 1/10th the hate (if it’s even noticed).
Similarly - when she’s on the streams, she gets tons of hate, despite the fact that I’ve never seen her do anything wrong or inappropriate and there are plenty of players just as bad, that people seem to be fine with.
It’s a pretty bad look that this thread is more critical of her than the 2p2 nvg thread is
