Back in the day, I played in a bunch of medium stakes private games in Jacksonville, FL. Occasionally they would run higher stakes games, 10-25ish. The game had a ton of shady local scumbags who played in it. There was a local whale who fed most of the games, he was like a doctor who was also somehow British royalty or some such. Supposedly he lost just shy of $1M over the course of a year when he games were at their height. He like to brag about how much he lost. I was in school at UF at the time and we’d drive over for these games. At some point we convinced Dan Bilzarian to come out with us (he was at UF at the same time and we all played in the same private games in Gainesville). The games got pretty crazy at that point, too expensive for me, but I’d still ride out and watch. Occasionally there would be “security” just some friend of the owner who owned a gun w/e. One night I’d gone to the game and left early because I had other plans that weekend. I get a call from my buddy, and he’s like, “well, we had to leave. The security guy shot himself in the leg and the police were on the way.” I was like, wtf? Evidently, Dan had started chatting with the guy about guns and the military, and were fucking around with the gun. The security went to take a piss and it discharged while he was taking a leak and hit his leg. Later we found out the the guy running the game had a random guy in the game who was a cheat. Lol.

Actually it’s one of the few 2+2 books that could still be relevant today, but since it’s a Malmuth book, it’s obviously gonna be a pile of crap.
I’m was a little sceptical about Malmuth writing history, but a psychology book does seem to be a better fit. Still, I may wait till he publishes something on public health.

He’s just an awful writer. I don’t want to read anything of his, even if it’s his wheelhouse subject.

The story behind that book is amazing. He wrote it as a huge middle finger to Dr. Tricia Cardner, author of Positive Poker, and indirectly to Jonathan Little, despite not knowing shit about psychology. NBZ is right, it’s the least essential poker book ever written.

It was written in 2015. You may be confusing it with The Psychology of Poker by Schoonmaker.
I’ve read it. It’s a pile of crap that doesn’t contain a single useful bit for playing poker. You will not improve your game by reading this book. TN32’s description of why the book was written is accurate.
I would really like to establish some reputation in the poker world just so I have the perceived standing to write a better poker psychology book.

Lol it’s literally one of the best bets you can get. It will sell out in seconds. Across the whole series, he has to be top 10 +ev in field given skill, number of events and his grind ethic.
The question is how much of his package is high rollers and how much edge does he have there? Also, how many -EV spots is he taking in $1500s trying to spin up a stack?
Agree. I wouldn’t buy a piece of him in a stand alone $1500.
My point is if you are getting a piece of him over whole series for all events I can’t see how he isn’t among the best bets in field.

A Hellmuth package at zero markup should be +EV, but his ego would never allow him to charge zero unless a sponsor was subsidizing it.
