Poker Hands and Strategy

Well, obviously.

it wasn’t a strategy post. it was a beat post. getting min c/r twice after failing the first time is quite an ownage. I obviously called and folded to a non club river. He claimed to have had A2.

Unrelated, my casino also has a weird rule with the blinds. There are no dead buttons and you never skip the blinds, so at times you would have two big blinds, or a small blind on the button etc.

Oh I should have read better, I thought it said “we did not see a river” and went “Wow amazing disciplined nit fold.”

My casino used to do the same with the blinds. Easy to get used to imo.

That’s the forward moving button rule, which I believe is common in California.

Satellite tournament question:

I was playing one with this weekend with 8 seats, and we were down to 9 players. Average stack was 7-8 BB, and there were no super short players, the three shortest stacks all had about 5 BB. The UTG player (5BB) shoved with JJ and got called by the big blind (a deeper stack) with QQ, UTG got eliminated. At first glance this seemed like straightforward play for both players, but I analyzed it a bit with ICM and now I am confused. Should UTG have just folded JJ, or min-raise folded? Should QQ have actually folded? These spots are so weird because it’s such a disaster for the two players involved to ever get it in against each other, but you can’t just fold every hand either.

r/f with 5bb and Jack’s seems awful.

Seems a straightforward cooler.

I forget, does ICM fail to consider UTG is going to be BB next hand?

Think it’s a pretty clear call for QQ. JJ I’m not so sure. I personally fold it and push any 2 next sb and button if I can, but I have no idea if that’s right.

It fails to consider that, yes.

ICMizer lets you choose the # of hands ahead to calculate.

@Tilted doesnt folding jacks utg with 5 bbs sounds like a perfect way to spend your vacation in vegas?

God i hate sats.

God help you if you choose a form of poker that requires creative solutions to unique situations

Depends if I win $10k in bullets to GAMBOOOOOL.

i mean being buried alive in the desert is also a unique situation that require creative solutions, but i’m claustrophobic so i rather not.

JJ is an auto shove.

It depends on QQs stack. I’m probably folding with less than 15 bb?

bbv lc post -

i drove to my card room at 11 pm yesterday. There was a 1-2 game ($200 max buy in) and a 1-3 game (basically uncapped). The 1-3 game had an average stack of ~4k and not a single good reg. It was also full and i was 4th on the list, with all the people ahead of me also big spots. I sadly look as two fish get all in pre with AT vs 66 for a 4k pot.

Sat down at 1-2. First orbit i gii with pair+fd 3-way vs overpair and top pair and hit. Then get QQ and bust someone aipf. Then get AA and get 3 streets of value from TP. Then get QQ again and bust another person and break the table. Literally played two orbits had 3 premiums and won a 3-way all in. Made 600 bucks and wasted my run good for the year on micro stakes.

Decided against waiting infinite amount of time (and usually with these type of tables they seem to break more often than just one person leaves) so drove 40 mins back home.

1-3 hand. very deep.

9 handed. I open QQ to 15 UTG. very drunk guy calls UTG+2 with 100ish stack. Solid reg raises to 115 UTG+3 or MP or LJ whatever you wanna call that.

BB avg reg on the tighter side flats in the BB.

Me and 3b are 3k deep. BB is 2k. Whats your play here?

You have to 4 bet here. 3b is squeezing so much and bb can’t have kk or aa. Seems like $450 is the right play.

Inb4 Bruce says fold.

Why do you have to 4b? Not sure there’s much calling that’s worse

I think I’d lean towards calling with a tight image (where MP is not likely to be squeezing out of respect for a tight UTG opening range) and 4betting with a loose image or if my opponent is such that I’m never folding to a big 5bet.

There can be some strategic value to having a protected pot with the drunk guy all-in, so it depends on how you see the hand playing out on various run-outs.
