Poker Hands and Strategy

So this. NBZ seems to constantly think his player pool consists of GTO wizards playing 1/2 and 2/5. He is always looking for 4th level plays to counter imagined exploitation. It’s so weird.

Yea one of the great things at low stakes NL is you can absolutely get away with having a polarized cbetting range. Playing anything close to GTO in these games is lighting money on fire.

That’s incredibly inaccurate.

Dude, you didn’t even understand what GTO meant a few days ago despite trying to explain it to everyone. NBZ is deliberately playing a very exploitable strategy safe in the knowledge that his opponents won’t exploit it, because he believes it’s more profitable against them.

There’s zero chance that he thinks his player pool consists of GTO wizards lol:

That’s just from the last few posts of his.

Would it be fair to say there’s some spots you try to keep a balanced range even though it might not be necessary against your player pool?

I simply don’t understand how you think about poker which is fine. I don’t need to. I just read you constantly talking about managing your image and balance which seems absurd to me at the levels you play. Those things matter so much less than getting value which you never seem to talk about or maximize.

I’d go so far as to say you could never think about balance ever again in games at this level and it wouldn’t hurt your ROI but would probably increase it.

That would be true.

One, I have aspirations to player higher where more balanced play is required to win, so I seek to learn how to play that way. Two, I seek to have my default play fall back to something that is somewhat balanced for when I am not on my A game. I don’t default to bet-bet-bet lines and spew money by being over-aggressive when my brain is in a fog and I am not getting the best reads.

There was a time when all you had to do was play tight and bet your hand and fold when you were obviously beat and you could just print money. Games are still sometimes like that and I don’t bother to talk about those scenarios because those hands are boring and easy to play. A lot of times, games are not like that and over-aggression is pure spew. But those games are still beatable. I’m happy playing with reg-fish who aren’t easy to stack with a non-cooler but who will bleed money consistently. I probably win about the same anyways than if I’m at a crazy, gambly table where people are shoving money around.

I’m never going to play a smart LAG style. I am always going to be a tight player and people are just going to perceive me as a tight player. No matter where I go, I am noticeably tight enough that people comment on it and try to engage in a little speech play to try and get me to loosen up.

Despite all the math I use, at the end of the day, I am still a psychology-based player. I understand that players play against me differently than they would against someone else. Their ranges against me are dictated by how they view me and they have different ranges vs me than they might have against you. It would be stupid of me to ignore table image.

Are you reraising light preflop at all?

Are you the type that won’t reraise AA and KK preflop because since you never reraise anything else it would make your hand totally face up?

I reraise light as a bluff. I prefer to do so when there are callers in between to squeeze. I don’t 3bet light to isolate. So, my 3betting range is polarized between value raises and bluffs, with an occasional weird hand thrown in for deception against good opponents.

I prefer to play in games where it is unnecessary to 3bet light to be the best player.

I sometimes don’t reraise AA/KK, but I usually do. I sometimes limp-reraise those hands, but I also limp-reraise some very non-premium hands like suited connectors.

The issue I have with this is you’re basically saying:

“I play tight. People comment on how tight I play. I can’t really play a LAG style. But I beat people by not playing tight.”

It’s like an Escher print.

I play tight, but if I play 10% of hands in a certain spot, they’re not the top 10% of hands. I have a discontinuous range and I pick spots to under-rep my hand.

Yep

A question for anyone who plays on Ignition Poker. I just deposited $1000 worth of Bitcoin for a x3 match (1.5 to poker and 1.5 to casino games), but given that I likely will single table (and at the moment am playing .10/.25), it looks like if I understand the bonus rules I likely won’t come close to reaching the bonus.

If so, does that mean I should just forfeit the bonus now and unlock my funds?

I’m not 100% sure about the first deposit bonus, but in general you don’t want to take any of the bonuses that can’t be cleared by poker and you probably want to forfeit the casino portion (unless you may lose all your money and be freerolling with it).

The poker bonus, I believe unlocks in smaller increments, so you can still get something and there is no reason to cancel it unless you want to cash out early.

Isn’t that like the exact opposite of what null hypothesis means? The null hypothesis, by definition, is that there is no difference between the two groups in question.
