He isn’t racist, he is racially ignorant. I dont think there is any racial animus in his views but he has a very pollyannish view of race. He thinks it’s not being racist to pretend race doesn’t matter. He is correct that the ideal world doesn’t see race but he thinks accomplishing that is just some magic switch. Because of this he downplays the role of race in our actual society.

Yea Sam Harris’s podcast was literally the first podcast I ever listened to (this was even back before 2016). I enjoyed it but feel like I outgrew the whole intellectual dork web thing pretty quickly. I wish he had too but I assume it’s such an ingrained part of his self-image that he’ll never be able to realize how ignorant he was on these topics.

Harris is like the third dumbest member of the Dork Web, only Bari and the unstoppably dumb Dave Rubin are dumber. Joe Rogan is smarter than Harris, and Joe Rogan believed in Bigfoot until like 18 months ago.
Remember when Noam Chomsky owned Sam Harris in a private email exchange and Harris was too dumb to figure out how bad he looked and voluntarily posted the whole conversation on his web site? lol.

maybe “better”, like better ideology and politics? Maybe but the Weinsteins are for sure smarter and I think Peterson probably is as well. Like Peterson was a professor at Harvard, although it doesn’t look like he got tenure there. But he maybe wasn’t denied because it looks like he went from assistant professor at Harvard to full professor at Canada University or wherever.
I like listening to Bret’s perspective, his brother has never interested me.
He was definitely denied tenure. Harris is smarter than Peterson, and probably the smartest IDW guy, but he has a bilnd spot on race common to some “just the facts” intellectuals. I don’t have an issue with Harris’ critique of Islam, except perhaps that it’s more based on doctrine and history than the contemporary world. Islam is at least as bad as Christianity and arguably much worse, as one can get at least semi respectable ethical system from Jesus.
Smarter is of course subjective but the way he’s been talking about Covid and BLM this year makes him sound like a bundle of rocks. Being good at math is not the only definition of smart.
+1 to Sam Harris being terrible. The last few eps I tried were the most intellectually masturbatory navel gazing garbage I’d ever heard.

Stewart is predictably phenomenal on that. Now Brogan is claiming he was joking about masks being for bitches. I’m sure his fans that have unknowingly killed their parents are sympathetic to his sense of humor.
