Can’t take Joe seriously about anything intellectual. Guy is a complete dullard and should be looked at that way.
Gonna restart listening to MMPC. Stopped listening when I saw that a lot of his stand-up material was a repeat of his podcast material but it’s a huge upgrade from JRE.
Not listened yet but virgil really wants the world to make sense logically which it doesn’t and matt is on that straight ‘no one can ever know anything’ tip. Makes a political prognostication show a bad idea (or a glorious train wreck).
I stopped listening a few months ago, but iirc, Virgil’s predictions were usually right while Matt was usually wrong because he would go overboard with Hellworld.
Virgil doesn’t seem to fit in with the rest of the team. Everybody else is cracking jokes while he jumps in periodically to say something forgettable. To me, the podcast can go on pretty easily without him.
Losing Felix would be a pretty heavy hit and the show wouldn’t be able to survive without Matt. The rest are easily replaceable.
They’re pretty much on the same page at the moment. Biden is extremely likely to win. VP pick is probably Kamala Harris, they think. That’s about it. The discussion of the QAnon chick who might get in was fun.
EDIT: Ah I see what it is. She’s extrapolating the blurring of protester’s faces into white people saying that pictures of protests shouldn’t be posted. Pretty much a bad faith argument specifically designed to get people to attack her so she can run away and cry about how mean progressives are.
Plenty of pictures with her standing happily with corporate Democrats. Fuck her.
That was the rare episode were Matt annoyed me. He kept talking over Virgil even though Virgil clearly knows more than him, and is far more data driven, on electoral prognosticating. Matt is understandably fed up with it all and in perma-WAAF mode. Which, while possibly factually accurate, doesn’t make for riveting podcasting the 100th time you hear it.
There was a generally awkward vibe to the episode, maybe Virgil’s easing himself back in to the swing of it. It is hard to get enthused about horse-race stuff at this sort of limbo-like stage, though. Maybe at/after the convention. They may just have done it to give Virgil a prominent ep.
5-4 is a solid podcast. Makes accurate points that many “respectable” con law people won’t.
Last trumpcast with Jed Sughurman (law prof with phd in history) was good. He’s all about blowing up the unitary executive theory as built on thin air.
Today’s Weeds was very good with matt and ezra debating/discussing the historical evolution of party politics and race.
I used to like Sam Harris, and i still like him for philosophy and atheism and anti-trump, but he’s got some real outmoded ideas on racial politics. I gave up on his recent podcast on the protests after about 20 mins.
Peter (The Law Boy) is one of the best I’ve ever heard at explaining to normal people why conservative judicial ideology is complete BS. He does so in an efficient, easy to understand manner, and always cuts right to the most important elements of the cases. Also, he’s very funny.
Sugahrman explaining how Barr is actually dumb but has mastered the affect of a smart person is a highlight of trumpcast.
I’ve known many smart people, some very smart, and none acted like a dumb person’s idea of a smart person, Barrs speciality. That kind of affect is adopted by those insecure about their intellect. (See also jared peterson before he od’d.) Take Sean Carroll of the Mindscape podcast. He’s a famous physics prof at cal tech with a strong interest in philosophy and comes across as a genial down to earth guy.
I gave up on Harris after the Charles Murray race science beef with Ezra Klein. Listening to all his podcasts around that controversy convinced me of a few things:
He’s actually kind of racist
He’s way too smug and self-satisfied
He’s a whiny baby
And in that light, looking at the rest of his work, I came to the conclusion that he’s got some other backwards views as well, particularly about women.
Yea I listened to him a bunch a couple years ago and while I appreciate his atheist views, he has some islamaphobia and racism in there as well. I think someone on this forum said before that you can get everything he provides content wise from a bunch of other people without the rest of that shit.
