I mean, I’d listen to a Chapo where they discuss the prequels, but I see zero value in a watch along

No longer supporting Chapo. The last like 5-6 episodes on Patreon were total duds.

It depends, there is some nuance here.

As individuals Rs are massively corrupt and massive scumbags, which ironically limits centralized corrupt power as everyone is out for themselves.

Where as individual Ds are on average less corrupt and overtly scummy, this actually makes them very effective as a massively corrupt, centralized and organized criminal conspiracy.

See how Rs allowed Trump to win by airing his rallies and allowing the primaries to play out. Whereas Ds and their media blacked out Bernie, painted Joe as the savior and formed a super team to stop the Communist Menance.

He didn’t. Caesar in his telling is yet to come, his point is that dysfunctional partisan gridlock breeds the desire to have someone descend from the clouds and sort it all out.

Nothing he says is dead fucking wrong per se, the elephant in the room unmentioned in the episode is that a lot of people on the right are cultists now. Like he argues that yelling at people that they are Nazis doesn’t accomplish anything, which is true. Yelling at religious maniacs that they are delusional doesn’t accomplish anything, but neither does rational argument. Religious maniacs have no intention whatsoever of listening to counterarguments, their only interest in argument is to fashion new weapons with which to defend their entrenched belief system. You see this sort of cultism a bit on the liberal left, where everything gets crammed into the Russiagate conspiracy and people just want to be told that We Got Him, but it’s nowhere near as developed as it is on the right.

Conspiratorial and religious thinking arises from alienation and an apprehension that one’s life is caught in a machine of vast forces beyond one’s control. To fix that we need a less alienated society. I have no idea how we get there, but I don’t agree with Carlin’s diagnosis of partisanship as the problem; that’s just another symptom, just like Trump himself.

Wat. Like 9/11 truther?

MIHOP or LIHOP? Because I mean there’s ‘Hard to support’ and there’s…

Disappointing, but unsurprising.

ok so should I unsub now? I just started listening. is he like the trainwreck type of truther where watching will be entertaining? or just the sad type of truther?

He was already the fucking irritating kind of whatever he was, so extrapolate from there imo.

The most recent “5-4” podcast on Castle Rock v. Gonzales absolutely enraged me. I’m legitimately too mad to summarize it properly but SEVEN justices said the police don’t have to enforce restraining orders against domestic abusers (in this case, resulting in the death of three children).

Got an absolutely world-beating idea, guys, stay with me now but imagine a horror podcast where the host is a podcaster AND, don’t lose the thread okay, but it turns out they’re the villain. None of you guys better steal this, now.

Great news for all you brainworms fans — bon appetit!

Unrelatedly, annoyed that they can’t seem to shake their Brace Belden habit. Only Amber pushing back against the 5G nonsense.

I don’t even understand that Chapo conspiracy theory, can someone help me?

If you spend your time posting on the chapo reddit, you’d think every Chapo listener was a total piece of shit scumbag. While it’s true that their trash talk appeals to left-wing edgelords, it’s there as a response to the same rhetoric from the right that always go unchallenged or even championed by their big names. They’re sick of Democrats playing by some gentleman’s agreement while the Republicans stomp all over them and their agreement.

That said, none of the Chapo redditors like Amber. So I doubt she’s really drawing the edgelords in. I viewed her as a token woman on the team. She never really seemed to fit in with their type of shit talking, nerd cultlure references, and insults.

Looking at the rest of her tweeting, she seems to be claiming that Chapo’s supposed misogyny towards Elizabeth Warren and their “dirtbag rhetoric” allowed people to create a Bernie Bros stigma that cost Bernie the election. It’s a horribly weak claim. Bernie lost because the rest of the establishment colluded to throw the vote to Biden. Liz did her job by splitting the far left vote between herself (when she knew she had no chance to win) and Bernie.

She further claims that the fans that Chapo brings in are in an environment where online Nazis can recruit them into their groups which is total bullshit. Yeah those reddit boards are total cesspools but represent a minority of their fans and they spend most of their time mocking Nazis, not becoming them. Also, apparently Virgil and Amber are connected to fascists?

Just a bunch of race baiting bullshit and claims of misogyny from somebody completely delusional. She got into this knowing that she’d be brigaded and was happy to play the victim when it happened because it could be used as an excuse to further attack Chapo. She got her attention. Best to not give her the time of day.

Surface level: Chapo are secretly fash because they’re rude and not just to Republicans. They hired a woman and a guy of Asian extraction as ‘cover’ for this, on account of female and/or Asian fascists never having existed. They ‘launder’ the cryptofascism by being extremely cryptofascist (I know this doesn’t make sense but that appears to be the line).

Beneath that, the person is really telling on herself, since she clearly thinks the woman and the Asian guy are and could only be ‘diversity hires’ using identity to shield from criticism. And the ultimate underlying cause of it all is that Chapo is popular in left/lib spaces, popularity is innately suspect, Chapo don’t work anywhere Rose Emoji twitter can get them fired from and most damningly of all there is no manager to call. The last part has broken quite a few people’s brains, evidently. Hope this helps!

This presents the kind of person she is

She is among the more insidious enemies as she identifies with some leftist positions but really isn’t at all. People like her do more to harm the left than anything Nancy Pelosi can do.

Speaking of her:

Yup, yup monetizing wokeness. Using her crusade against Chapo to make her more popular and thus more profitable.

Goes to show that the right doesn’t have a monopoly on grifting

She is a lowly plankton in terms of the right wing griftosphere. Begging people for monthly subscriptions to her “grassroots movement strategist” advice is a hilariously bad way to grift. This is probably just to pay rent; her real financial plan is probably Get Big Twitter Following > ??? > Profit.

Right wing has pillow magnates, juiced call options, entire fake companies, a for-profit presidency, and everything in between. The left has what, the Clintons peddling influence and still getting owned, and Chapo charging people for a podcast? No comparison.

I’ll bet she actually believes what she says.

Nate interviews the guy who makes the model that forecasts COVID deaths in the US. Pretty good, the biggest aha moment though, was that when you hear stuff like “the model said 100-200k deaths, now we’ve gotten it down to 60k, ergo I’m doing a great job” that trump is talking about two different models. The 200k “model” was apparently something that Jared and his dipshit buds made up.

I’m really not interested in listening to a nate podcast, but surely we’re still heading into the 200k death range if there’s a second/third/whatever wave, right?
