If you look above the sign, you can see the option for a different language.

This is punishment for the US-Japan trade deal. Watch out Europe!

msnbc’s website zero coverage of this , not important or anything

cnn’s website, it’s front and center but for me behind the paywall glad I don’t whatsoever need those live tsunami updates. If it gets to me, the entire country is completely f’d.

sigh fox’s website it’s 2nd behind raging about something about that nyc mayor candidate like basically every story from when he won that primary to the election

I’m watching on YouTube. NHK World. But it’s too many graphics and not enough video.

The original Japanese actually does basically say this.

Getting Fukushima flashbacks.

I was wondering how a river overflowing could cause so much havoc in Texas and then I read somewhere that even 6 inches of rushing water can sweep a grown man off his feet. Now imagine 4-5 feet high carrying houses, cars, trees, etc. with it

Water is the most impressively powerful force on the planet. Anybody who willingly fucks around with it is insane

A foot high at Adak island near Alaska. I know little about this, but I’m guessing that’s not very high and since it’s still quite far from the west coast it won’t be that big.

Yea this really needs to be stressed. Water is what carved out Yosemite and the Grand Canyon.

The average swimming pool is 10K gallons. 1 gallon weighs 8 pounds. So a normal swimming pool is 80K pounds. Extrapolate that to a tsunami or hurricane surge going miles inland. It’s insane.

Even ones that don’t look high at all can be deadly.

“A major earthquake (M8.0) near the Kamchatka Peninsula has triggered a tsunami warning for Japan, saying waves of around 1 meter could reach various parts of the country. Don’t underestimate it. A 1-meter wave is enough to wash away cars.”

Here’s another illustration. The figure in red is the death rate. Black is the water level:

Yeah. I occasionally have night mates about a time I was in a semi-manic phase and nearly swam across a wide flooded river in Korea.

I was very close to doing it. And would definitely have died

How did Russia create the earthquake?

You laugh but I guarantee you some MAGA turd will make this argument tomorrow.

Yeah definitely. I meant that if it’s already down to 30cm near Alaska then it’ll be even lower by the time it reaches the west coast.
