I don’t feel that this thread is the proper venue to bring this up.
Look at it this way: fantasy baseball burns up a horrendous amount of free time. For whatever reasons, plenty of peeps decide to spend their free time that way anyways. There’s an argument to be made those folks shouldn’t be spending their time that way, that it’s all a pointless waste. But… the proper venue for making that argument is not in a thread dedicated to the internal doings of some FBB league, you know… who to pluck off the waive wire/etc.
It’s also missing the point to claim that FBB is a pointless waste. People entertain themselves in many myriad ways. Who are we to judge? Also, doing things together, even if those things, for all practical purposes, are a pointless waste, brings people together. They bond. How many lifelong friendships have been forged over fantasy sports? That’s the true measure here.
It’s exactly the same with the folks volunteering to do what is quite obviously a pointless and otherwise wasteful expenditure of their own free time. It makes them happy. Who are we to judge? People bond. How many lifelong friendships have been forged over precinct walking or boiler rooming? That’s the true measure here.
Cliffs: leave the fantasy sports peeps, and the pointless volunteering peeps, alone in their own dedicated internal threads.
Minimizing and/or criticizing polical volunteerism, in 2020, is completely absurd. Give us a few more Skydivers in 2016 and our lives would all be immensely better, with thousands of other lives saved.

And here you are encouraging a debate to break out on overall and in general efficacy of political volunteering… in a dedicated thread for the internal workings of a particular, what could be called, the “UnStuck Fantasy Politics League”.

Maybe start another thread yourself… if you want to make a positive argument regarding the objective and general effectiveness of volunteer boiler rooming, etc.
What? You spend 300 words asserting that volunteering is a useless parallel for FBB and then say this isn’t the thread for discussing the merits of volunteering? Am I being leveled?

My other point was that people spend their spare time in all sorts of ways, Who are we to judge? As long as it makes them happy, and they are bonding and making friends, it’s all good. I don’t see this as at all controversial either.
Do you seriously disagree with either of these two above points I was making? If not, I’m at a loss as to what you are carrying on about.
What you are doing is like punching someone in the face and then advocating for nonviolence. It seems intentional, like you just want to call volunteering useless and then proactively end the conversation. Am I giving you too much credit?
I appreciate volunteering, and I appreciate the people ITT. I hope they continue to do so, and I hope people stop invading their space to call their endeavors useless.

Any group of peeps who are doing something they find fun/etc should be allowed to do so unmolested in their own threads. That’s true for FBBers, and boiler platers, and dog lovers, and any and every other groupings of people.
What this is not saying is: FBBers == boiler platers, or FBBers == dog lovers, or bioler platers == dog lovers. Does that help you understand what I’m trying to say?
