The German report obviously should be viewed with some skepticism, but if theyāre claiming to have discovered secret documents through espionage that support a strong conclusion in favor of the lab Li leak theory, itās also hard to reject it without seeing the underlying evidence. Iāve always thought that the only chance of getting direct evidence in favor of a lab leak was espionage or post-CCP archive diving. It will be interesting to see if thereās any actual substantiation forthcoming.

Again, there is very strong evidence of two lineages of Covid circulating in the very initial outbreak, that just isnāt consistent with a lab leak. It would have had to leak, then develop two divergent lineages, and then outbreak in the same place. Thatās insanely unlikely compared to a zoonotic event, even more so that the outbreak focused in a wet market, a place ripe for zoonotic spillover

I tend to agree! If Iām reading the report correctly, the German assessment was produced pretty early on, before the lineage stuff was broadly understood, so perhaps they donāt have the same 80% confidence in a lab leak that they used to.
