Yep. Don’t think of it so much as a formally defined defense in and of itself, but more as a weird subset of other defenses like self-defense or temporary insanity… The defense basically argues that being hit on by a gay/trans person or, in some cases, the mere existance of that person is so inherently threatening or provocative that the defendant was justified in responding violently. I first remember hearing about it during the Matthew Shepard case…
