~3 mph over the speed limit is not really speeding anywhere I’ve seen a posted speed limit sign. Even in school zones, the lowest I’ve seen is 20mph. If someone goes through at 23, I don’t think anyone thinks anything of it.
I have explained this myth to people and have had them tell me I’m wrong. They then tell me a story about their friend who worked overtime and actually made less money.
There’s a house near me that I called the “Trump house” because it was the only one around with a whole bunch of MAGA shit all over the lawn. On the flag pole, it had “Vermont for Trump” underneath the American flag. (Good job buddy, he lost by 35 points statewide and by 65 points in your town)
There’s no more Trump memorabilia, but the flag pole and the flag hanging in front of their door both now have the American flag flying upside down.
You should get to know the occupants. I’m sure they have lots of riveting stories about how all the flatlanders are ruining the state.
It’s weird that they live where they do.
It’s the most diverse city in the state (it’s Vermont, so still 75% white, but still).
There are plenty of places in the state where they could not be such outliers.
Just the smell of ranch/mayo grosses me out.
Yeah I randomly clicked on a Sapolsky link ITT and have gone down a rabbit hole. Super interesting.
This is my attitude. Wouldn’t honk. It doesn’t get just attention, it gets a fight or flight response. On the other hand, it never ceases to amaze me that once people get in their cars, they switch from oblivious to my car to oblivious to pedestrian me.
One of my vivid memories from my teenage years/early 20s (so maybe it’s not that vivid) is pulling my mom out of the way of a car speeding the wrong direction in a Shop Rite parking lot. Not that I think Clovis was doing this but yeah best to use discretion in an area where people are known to be walking around. I honk at people all the time outside of parking lots though.
I drive super slow in parking lots, as well as narrow residential streets where there are cars parked along either side and just one lane for driving. The reason? I can still vividly remember teenage me cruising down one of those streets and having a cat dart in front of my car. I hit the brakes but only succeeded in killing the poor thing with one of my tires. I felt like complete shit then and I still do now. Imagine if I were in a parking lot and that was somebody’s toddler. Fuck I’d probably have to kill myself.
So yeah, slow down.
Ok I am officially addicted.
They’re the new STONKS.
