I am on board with the recall. Never liked him much in the first place. Pretty typical wealthy e-dem with the right connections.The state response to covid has been an embarrassment and blood is definitely on his hands. That’s not even taking into consideration the french laundry thing which was so hilariously clueless.
He doesn’t GAF. He’ll probably survive recall. Say what you want about Jerry Brown but he wouldn’t have fucked this up.
I’m not particularly worried about a republican unseating him because the republican brand = trump now and california has no appetite for it. A more moderate republican like schwarzenegger would easily win here but they’re all democrats now. So worst case we get some other moderate edem.

The Nest I have takes the same electric connection a normal thermostat takes. Not sure how else you’d get around that.
And the depressing part is that very little will change.
It’s a hit piece from the fossil fuel industry. Every conservative piece I’ve read or heard talks about how the wind turbines freezing shows the necessity of fossil fuels because they’re more reliable.
But the cause of the majority of the energy shortage is coal and natural gas plants’ failure to come online because their equipment froze.

The ROI of any specific windmill isn’t the issue, it’s the lack of winterizing for the whole system for a chill of this magnitude and the failure of the whole system. Conservatives are trying to blame the black outs on renewable energy as a whole to avoid taking the blame on building a grid that was always going to fail.
In any case the Texas government probably will pass something to force companies to winterize to a 0° F chill just like the forced plants to winterize to temperature of the chill in 2011 when this exact same thing happened. The guiding light of the Texan government is to do the bare minimum necessary while raking in the profits.
The entire right wing media machine has already mobilized behind the problem being over reliance on renewables. This will be parroted and widely accepted as fact within a few days, max.
This is an insane losing battle. Shell announced this week they anticipate 1-2% reduction in oil production every year going forward. They are filling that with renewables. The entire industry is actively working on this transition.
Dems ought to be pounding the table and coming up with solutions for Texas’s energy grid, but instead they’re going to launch yet another a task force to investigate Trump.

Gray Davis being recalled as CA Governor was an interesting confluence of events. There were many people in the state at the time(myself among them) who were pissed about his handling of the energy crisis, which was caused by Enron intentionally manipulating the market in what later became obvious was fraudulent behavior, and there was really no Federal help on the issue because George W Bush got quite a bit of campaign contributions from the conmen at Enron. I was an uninformed(relative to now) voter at the time, so I didn’t understand the full ramifications of the Bush Admin basically telling California to go fuck itself during that crises.

As I’ve said many times in the climate change and other threads, despite politics I’m not worried that there will be a transition to renewables - including storage - simply because they are already less expensive in many areas and will continue to be become moreso.
It could happen faster or slower though depending on politics.

Too bad native son, former Gov, former Sec of Energy, glasses-wearing Rick Perry didn’t have the foresight to deploy compact fusion reactors in the Great State of Texas to prevent this apocalypse.
