**Official** Physicists are freaks and very weird dudes LC Thread

Amazing. Every time I see kids playing soccer I have some bizarre fantasy of just running on the field and delivering a ruthless sliding tackle, then running as fast as I can so the adults don’t kill me. This often makes me think I’m the worst person in the world.

Thanks, Vijay Singh, for making my life a little better today.

They want a fast way to get around California without dealing with peasants on the highway or at the airport?

Yes it ended in a big kerfuffle because I said no matter what political philosophy you start with - most well-run small political entities probably end up the same - trying maximize individual freedom while still having enough common sense rules to prevent chaos.

Libertopians can’t even pass that test.

Listening to this made me think of the James Gandolfini executive produced HBO documentary on PTSD: Wartorn 1861-2010 | Watch the Movie on HBO | HBO.com

"Civil War doctors called it hysteria, melancholia and insanity. During the First World War it was known as shell-shock. By World War II, it became combat fatigue. Today, it is clinically known as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a crippling anxiety that results from exposure to life-threatening situations such as combat.

With suicide rates among active military servicemen and veterans currently on the rise, the HBO special WARTORN 1861-2010 brings urgent attention to the invisible wounds of war."

I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn’t seen it.

The logistics of ending a war like that are weird to me. Like, if you know the war is going to stop at a fixed time, do you still keep firing shots up to the last minute?

Imagine being the last guy killed, talk about running bad
