Or an em dash or double --, both of which I believe are preferred in publishing. Single dash is fine for forums but don’t think it’s generally accepted.
Thank God they are going to guard our heritage and culture.

This forum software appears to convert two dashes into an em dash.
That is pretty standard in editors these days.
It’s somehow modeled on a gated community in the South.
