I don’t even remember this one. George subplot sounds hilarious.
I was all cued up for a pick (one I wasn’t married to, but it popped in my mind) and then, I was inspired:
Back, and to the left…
Back, and to the left…
I think we’re going to take a two parter for the wrap:
The Boyfriend ( Seinfeld )

" The Boyfriend "
Season 3, episodes 17 and 18
" The Boyfriend " (also known as " The New Friend ") is a two-part episode of the sitcom Seinfeld . It makes up the 34th and 35th episodes of the show, and 17th and 18th episodes of the show’s third season. It first aired on February 12, 1992. In the “extras” section of the Season 3 DVD, Jerry Seinfeld says it is his favorite episode. Upon its first airing, it was initially titled “The New Friend”.
Part 1[edit]
Jerry meets an idol of his—former New York Mets baseball player Keith Hernandez (appearing as himself)—and wants to make a good impression. Meanwhile, George is out of time on his unemployment and he works harder than ever on his scheme to get a 13-week extension. He tells the unemployment office that he was close to a job with Vandelay Industries, a company made up by George that makes latex products and whose main office’s phone number is Jerry’s apartment. Kramer and Newman accuse Keith of spitting on them after a past Mets game by the players parking lot at Shea Stadium; however, Jerry supports a “second-spitter theory” in which Keith is not involved: This is an obvious reference to the Single-bullet Theory analysis to which JFK assassination conspiracy buffs have historically drawn attention. Keith asks Jerry about Elaine’s relationship status, then makes a date with her, breaking a date he previously made with Jerry.
Part 2[edit]
Having been busted by his unemployment officer after an out-of-the-loop Kramer answers Jerry’s phone and informs her that the number is for a private apartment, George tries to curb losing his benefits by taking the officer’s daughter (Carol Ann Susi) out for a date. She dumps George by the end of the date, which causes him to express to Jerry his desire to date a tall woman. Meanwhile, Jerry becomes jealous that Keith is spending more of his time dating Elaine. Elaine ends the relationship because he smokes. When Keith asks Jerry to help him move his furniture, Jerry considers this too large a favor given how little time they’ve known each other and ends their friendship. Right then, Kramer and Newman confront Keith about the “spitting incident”. Keith tell them the real spitter was Mets relief pitcher Roger McDowell. Kramer and Newman remember they had taunted McDowell throughout the game and the pair apologize to Keith, also offering to help move his furniture. George rushes in with one last desperate attempt to win over his unemployment officer by getting Keith to meet her, but he is too late. As he mopes, a tall woman appears with his wallet, which he had dropped on the sidewalk outside, causing George to give a happy smile.
Scenes I remembered:
Nice pick, classic episode
The Chicken Roaster is another great pick.
Jerry’s always knocked for his acting but he did a better Kramer than Kramer did.
VANDELAY! SAY VANDELAY!
Wasn’t sure what to do with two-parters. I would’ve had The Boyfriend way higher if we could draft two episodes at the same time
Player | Round 1 | Round 2 | Round 3 | Round 4 | Round 5 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Nicholasp27 | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted |
superuberbob | The Contest | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted |
Namath | The Opposite | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted |
suzzer | The Deal | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted |
TrueNorth | The Marine Biologist | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted |
MattyLice | The Hamptons | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted |
mjiggy | The Chicken Roaster | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted |
beetlejuice | The Millennium | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted |
Dodger | The Boyfriend | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted | Undrafted |
I think you should be allowed to draft two-parters if you write them up appropriately.
Do we wait for Nick or snake around?
Snake. Hopefully he returns before it is back to him again.
That’s exactly what I thought. Gives away what my opinion of the episode is.
But overall y’all got some good taste in episodes. One round in and more than half my top 10 list is gone.
Finally some goddam Newman GOAT. So much fail to start this draft.
or if you have the wrap.
Oh, my bad. I thought I was being clever and that was the only way to draft a two parter.
Jimmy screwed up.
But then you’d be wasting a chance to take three episodes instead of two. As far as I know, George is not participating in this draft.
The Jimmy
Season 6, ep 18
Elaine has tickets to a benefit for the Able Mentally Challenged Adults (AMCA) featuring famous crooner Mel Tormé, and contemplates asking out a blond guy from her health club. At the health club she ends up talking with Jimmy, and agrees to a date with him, not realizing that by “Jimmy” he means himself and not the blond man.
At the health club, because of novocaine he was given for dental surgery, Kramer speaks awkwardly and drools water on the floor. Jimmy slips in the puddle, injuring his leg, and promises revenge. Without Jimmy, George fails to demonstrate the value of the training shoes to employees at a sneaker store, as his vertical leap is embarrassingly short. Kramer shares a taxicab with an executive at the AMCA, who mistakes him for a mentally challenged adult due to his novocaine-induced condition and shoes, and invites him to the event as the guest of honor. Jerry and Elaine recognize the misunderstanding but are not overly concerned that Kramer’s cover will be blown.
At a second appointment with Dr. Whatley, Jerry is put to sleep with nitrous oxide. Whatley tells Jerry that his regular assistant Jennifer is at Dr. Sussman’s office and has been replaced by Cheryl, because “we find it fun to swap now and then.” When Jerry wakes, he sees Whatley and Cheryl adjusting their clothes and fears he was sexually violated while asleep. Kramer later picks up a copy of Penthouse and reads an anonymous letter from a dentist who says he recently “had a little fun” with his dental hygienist and one of his patients. Jerry looks on in shock.
George eats Kung Pao chicken for lunch, making him sweat again. Mr. Wilhelm walks in while he is on the phone with Sports Wholesalers talking about “beautiful athletic gear” (the shoes). Along with the sweat, Wilhelm becomes convinced George stole the equipment and reports him to the team owner, George Steinbrenner. The stress makes George starts talking in the third person; this confuses Steinbrenner, who ends up talking about his lunch and completely forgetting about the stolen equipment.
After Jerry tells Elaine about Jimmy referring to himself in the third person, she realizes her mistake. However, finding Jimmy’s manner of speech charming, and additionally learning that the man she was initially interested in is gay, she decides to keep the date. At the benefit, Jimmy attacks Kramer, slugging him in the face before being dragged out by security. Kramer’s lip becomes swollen and he once again looks and speaks as if he were mentally challenged. Mel Tormé dedicates a rendition of “When You’re Smiling” to a beaming Kramer.
Scenes remembered:
Yeah, I remember when I saw it live it was like seeing Larry Bird dunk.
Where’d that come from?!?
Joke (?) was that I didn’t write it up appropriately.
I’m doing this off memory so if I gave a recap it would be very, very poor.
Jerry being terrified of Mr Marbles is definitely a top 10 moment.
