Like, most of us mostly (if not totally) agree with you about the problems with policing. Nobody else is delusional enough to think that getting the cops to give up their powerful weapons first is remotely possible.
Also, lol at you previously claiming to be progressive and now admitting you’ve only recently begun thinking about things that basically any progressive would have been thinking about years ago. Like, holy shit, assault rifles make it easier to commit mass murder. You don’t say. You just started to figure that out, huh?
Sorry I’m not a Neanderthal herd follower like you. Wait… No I’m NOT at all sorry I’ve got brains to think for myself and don’t have to mimic MSM establishment garbage talking points
Of course, I’ve thought about suicide and mass shootings before, but I figured if someone wants to do either, they can with or without a gun. But because I don’t live in a bubble like you, I’m open to being influenced by other opinions. And the opinion that guns make it far easier to commit these acts does make sense
But it still doesn’t get me off the deadly violence of cops issue. I don’t like having institutionalized armed gangs of thugs violating people’s constitutional rights all over the place. The gun issue at least for me, and many others includes BOTH civilians AND police! If you think it’s okay to want to disarm all civilians and leave the police alone then you’re no better than a Trumpkin “Law and Order” boot licker as far as I’m concerned. Talk about mutual disarmament together! Get police back to protecting and serving, instead of what they do now, which is eliminate non whites from society by violating their rights and throwing them in jail to turn a profit
What I’m saying is, you can’t have it both ways. You can’t say guns are such a huge problem in the hands of civilians while ignoring all the shootings committed by police, then further go on to say, oh well yeah, of course we ALL agree police violence is a problem too, but let’s put that aside when talking about civilian gun violence okay? I mean, you can try, but it’s illogical
And before you even try, I know what you’re going to say… They aren’t intrinsically linked. I disagree and I’m not rehashing a whole section of this thread again, so don’t even bother
Of course we can say that, and of course it makes perfect sense to people who aren’t myopic fake-progressives like yourself.
Militarized police are definitely a problem but they are orthogonal to gun violence in this country, as I’m sure has been pointed out before to you, gun violence was surely the pretense used to up-armor the police. Removing guns from civilians will deescalate the situation and allow the Police to be de-militarized. But there is no rational world in which the idea of taking guns away from the Police is a good first step in reducing guns in civilian hands and should actually pre-empt any other form of gun regulation.
All the guns in the hands of civilians do not seem to be stopping the cops from doing the things you bring up or solve the problem. Maybe we need fully automatic weapons or tanks to stop their brutality.
Do people lend and borrow guns from each other as with lawn equipment and such? I did not know this and it seems like a great opportunity for the sharing economy. Here’s my pitch: Uber for guns. I’m gonna be fucking rich!
I don’t think it’s normal to lend out your handguns in TX at all, at least I’ve never heard of people doing it. Like, it’s pretty impractical to get a concealed carry permit if you don’t own a gun, but it isn’t impossible. You don’t need a permit to have a hand gun in your car though. I think it’s pretty likely that crenshaw is running around offering people his guns and they’re just giving him weird looks and turning him down.
