I would have a really tough time answering questions from Jordan or Nunes in a hearing as the witness( I won’t ever be one, I just thought for a while what it would be like to be questioned by them in a hearing). They would ask the question and my only thought would be to laugh at them for being so pathetic that I wouldn’t hear what they said. After several “could you repeat the question?” I would probably ask them to submit it in writing since I find them so pathetic as individuals I cannot listen to the words that come out of their mouths.
I was thinking about this today for some reason, wrt Peter Stroke when he was there, and what I would have said myself to some of the questions & I finally settled on your assumption that I’d stall with pls repeat that Q and run out time, I didn’t know you could ask for written questions.
Tbh I couldn’t do it I’d end in jail for calling them what they are.
I don’t know if you can, I just would have to
And 100% I could not keep a straight face…
I don’t know why these threads get so many replies, but if only these protesters in Hong Kong had assault rifles, the Chinese army would think twice about wiping them off the map.
Your 5 minutes would be up. The absolute lamest thing about these questionings is the 5 minute bs.
so it got leaked the GOP told everyone to just say all violence was and is done by the left
Doesn’t matter what the political views are if there are any–the left did it. I’m sure that totally not divisive in any way rhetoric will bring us together and these shootings will stop.
Probably referring to the Tampa Bay Times article posted by smacc above.
First, I’d like to remind you of why I jumped into this thread. It was to ask the question of why no one, not the gun nuts, not those who are pro gun control, and not any politician that I’ve heard, ever brings up this issue. It is assumed by many, that police are “the good guys”, so they can be as heavily armed as they want. Whereas, I feel they serve on the front lines of an incredibly corrupt and racist judicial system that has utterly ruined the lives of countless minorities and their generations. There’s a lot more to racial injustice and inequality than our policing and judicial system, but it’s a good place to start
You don’t have to agree being equally armed will prevent things from getting worse, but my main point was we shouldn’t allow them to be infinitely more armed than the public they’re supposed to serve. Urban policing should get back to being a respectable profession
I am too, as are many others. Police aside, imagine if the GOP could completely get their way…
- We continue to ignore climate change that threatens our very existence
- Women lose the right over their own bodies
- Non scientific religious garbage gets taught alongside real science in our schools
- People lose everything they own and needlessly die from easily preventable deaths because they cannot afford the medications and healthcare they need
- Minorities are basically eliminated from society by either being kicked out or jailed
- Cops get away with murdering unarmed black men, while taking a knee for BLM gets you ousted from your profession, etc.
These are just some of their ideal outcomes and it’s probably an alarmist scenario too, but it’s already happening. How bad can it get? And what if we can’t vote our way out of it because they’re already gerrymandering and doing everything they can to make it as hard as possible for the poorest minorities to cast their vote and have a say? Also, what if the few families who now control nearly half the wealth don’t stop until they own all of it? This is probably the point where it affects you and I, but it has already devastated the poor. Then what do you suggest? That we throw up our arms in surrender because they’ve locked up all the money, judges, and power? You don’t think maybe a well armed populace might come in handy in such a scenario?
Ideally, we shouldn’t want any guns in a decent civilized society. But decent civilized societies don’t live at the heels of corrupt money, judges, and power. If you can’t vote it out, I don’t know how else you go about it
I agree with your definition of powder keg. At some point it all explodes (or implodes) and whether it comes down to an uprising, or simple survival, people have the right to defend themselves. However, I disagree that gun owners won’t consider you on the same side. First, even if you do disagree ideologically, sometimes an enemy becomes an ally versus the threat of a greater evil. Also, not all gun owners are racist redneck rubes contrary to what you’ve been led to believe. There are plenty of integrity driven gun owners and/or survivalists who would be on the right side of history if the powder keg blows. There are also plenty of military AND police who would defect, not to mention ex military with progressive values
Anyway, I’ve said pretty much all I have to say on this subject and if you read what I’ve actually written and not what some have tried so hard to falsely attribute to me, you’ll have a good idea of what my values are and where my intentions lay. I am NOT about cop killing or anarchy. I’m about the right to defend oneself against tyranny. And especially if you’re a minority, the current system you are subjected to and get pushed through, is in fact a tyrannical system imo. And none of this even accounts for the racism that exists outside the judicial system. I find it ironic that a few posters who most vehemently disagree with me, have made some of my points with more eloquence and knowledge than I ever could. See you in another thread and hopefully, different topic. I’m done talking about guns and the 2A
There were entire threads on police brutality and our messed up judicial system on 2p2. Id guess just about everyone who posts here wants reforming of both.
And again the 2nd amendment people for the most part will help trump if he starts rounding up his enemies. They are not on the same side. There are a some gun owners like me who are red neck hippies but we are far and few between.
If you want to make the argument for guns being good if trump and 2nd amendment people go nuts the only one is America is so chock full of guns they would be easy to get for the side that has virtually none in comparison. Come on with gun owners coming to the rescue. Their the ones supporting and encouraging the mad man right now!
Dumb question but CNN is reporting a few mass shootings were stopped by tips. Is it illegal to talk about committing a mass shooting? One of the guys did so just in a text to his ex.
Same as shouting “Fire!” in a theater, I’d guess.
I would think it’s more along the lines of talking about a bomb in an airport. It’s something you don’t even joke about unless you’re okay with being taken into immediate custody and interrogated
Of course you would be interrogated. But have you actually broken the law?
Making specific threats to specific people is illegal, it’s the “true threat” exception to the First Amendment. I don’t see how saying something like “I’m gonna go to the mall and murder a bunch of people” could be illegal, because I don’t know what exception to the First Amendment would apply. It’s not a true threat because there is no intent to frighten or intimidate specific people.
Any person who writes or composes and also sends or procures the sending of any letter, inscribed communication, or electronic communication, whether such letter or communication be signed or anonymous, to any person, containing a threat to kill or to do bodily injury to the person to whom such letter or communication is sent, or a threat to kill or do bodily injury to any member of the family of the person to whom such letter or communication is sent
It has to be a threat directed at the person to whom your speech is directed. It’s not illegal to text your ex and say “I’m going to do a mass shooting”. It’s illegal to text your ex and say “I’m going to do a mass shooting and your mom is going to be one of the people I shoot”.
keep reading bro
or any person who makes, posts, or transmits a threat in a writing or other record, including an electronic record, to conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism, in any manner that would allow another person to view the threat, commits a felony of the second degree,
Like, you think they just arrested him for shits and giggles?
Not a lawyer, but my assumption was yes, and it appears from Prana’s post that you have. I’m a huge 1A supporter, but I’m fine with this law. It’s not like people who would carry out such an act would be deterred by it. If so, then it might be better to let them talk thereby increasing the chances they can be thwarted?
Btw- To whomever, this has got to be the easiest and most convenient web forum experience I’ve ever been on. Congrats to whoever wrote or found it
Context probably matters a lot.
I’m sure it’d result in a visit from the FBI if found out.
