This will sound callous but is this even news at this point?

Multiple fatalities at a university? Uh, yeah. This is still pretty rare given the setting.

I get the sentiment and am certainly on his side, but this is pretty cringey.

Yeah, I’d agree. And his math seems wrong. 2,215 mass shooting deaths in 67 mass shootings? That’s an average of 33 per shooting. Maybe he means 2,215 gun deaths? I don’t know.

How is this cringey. Literally the only politician I’ve seen actually saying anything of value at all. 99.9% offer worthless prayers to their imaginary bff.

Yes, probably (non-suicide) gun deaths.

It’s uncouth. For some.

This is why when discussing gun control with right wingers you should say you don’t want them to shoot themselves in the head with their own gun.

Is it more or less uncouth than complicit politicians offering thoughts and prayers while accepting blood money from guns rights activists? Close call, we should probably err on the side of politeness. Some more dead kids is a small price to pay for decorum among the political ruling class.

Meh letter. The opening is totally disconnected from the rest, rhetorically. From “Fuck your thoughts and prayers” to “I want to extend my deepest condolences” in the span of nothing. It basically opens with “fuck you, Republicans,” and then transitions into a totally standard response.

He was originally charged with a felony, carrying a concealed weapon, which has a maximum penalty of five years behind bars. He was also charged with a misdemeanor, possession of a loaded firearm in or upon a vehicle, which could have been punishable by up to two years in jail.

Anthony McRae pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor and was sentenced to probation. He was discharged in May 2021.

Typical charging practice. Plea to probation. Firearm offenses need to be treated more harshly, as long as firearms are still so easy to acquire (so, at least for the next 100 years).

Buffalo NY grocery store shooter sentenced to life without parole today. Separate federal case still ongoing.

Gendron is reported to have written a manifesto, describing himself as an ethno-nationalist and a supporter of white supremacy who is motivated to commit acts of political violence. He voiced support for the far-rightGreat Replacementconspiracy theory in the context of a “white genocide”.

many have tried the powerful tweet/speech on gun violence like once everyone reads it things are going to be different.

Tyler said his wife’s death was only six days after her younger brother, Brandon, died from a gunshot wound.

Wow I grew up in Irmo (SC, where this happened) and used to work at this Kroger. (30 years ago)

This feel like the perfect tweet to explain the GOP, guns, and democracy

This Brandon Miller story is wild.

100% favorable prosecutorial treatment (decent chance of a payoff) to ignore such a slam-dunk accessory charge.
