Thatā€™s what I was getting at. ISIS sounds scary, but those guy was basically run of the mill guy-who-snapped instead of some exotic foreign evil. Until I hear otherwise, Iā€™m thinking of him exactly like a guy who snapped and killed his family and so coworkers.

What of the supposed accomplices? Thatā€™s kind of the one thing working against this theory.

Hey now, thatā€™s the rightā€™s second favorite type of killing machine!

So basically whatā€™s happening is mass shootings are now so common they donā€™t even make the news. So these new wave copycat killers are going to become more creative in order to be famous. Great.

The fact that we all know this guys name is why the media is the enemy. They are the cigarette executives who made ads about how good smoking was for you while reading research it killed you. Worse though as the research about it killing us is out in the open.

someone in a press conference today said he was ā€œINSPIRED BY ISISā€

I am surprised that the media is not focusing more on the unknown people who were putting bombs around New Orleans to help this guy.

edit: i guess that turned out to be false

Most of the time real estate agents do work and get paid nothing; the opposite of rent seeking.

wait, there were no bombs at all? or these four people werenā€™t the ones planting them??? Or these people DID plant bombs but they were completely unrelated to the Truck Guy???

You expect them to hold back a name like Shamsud-Din Jabbar?! This is no regular Tom Thompson!

Amazing how bad the general reporting on this is.

Side gripe, I really hate the pyramid structure of news reporting. Start with the most important facts and then filter to less and less important, rather than grouping by theme or narrative structure.

It made sense 30 years ago when that article was all youā€™d get about the story for the whole day. But now itā€™s just a snapshot of our knowledge at a particular time that is going to be obsolete in a few hours. They should just say whatever the new info is, and STFU.

News of all types have been effing up major breaking news stories forever. Basically try to ignore the first day of reporting of anything other than to look at it as a historically laughable and inaccurate record. Especially ignore the first two hours.

Unexpected Hip sighting

Iā€™ve always suspected that most newspapers switched styles to make you read longer to get to the point. I think their logic was that if you get everything you really need to know about a story in the first few paragraphs, then thereā€™s no need to turn to the page where the story continues where you also get to see all the advertising. I understand the logic, but itā€™s another example of how capitalism and journalism donā€™t always go together that well. Also agree itā€™s not that necessary in an age where most people are getting their news online.

i mean, thereā€™s certainly a way to kill one person and gets lots of press right?

Maybe Lorne Malvo killed him and set the destination to Trump tower.

I donā€™t remember his name anymore. As long as they just print it once but donā€™t repeat it over and over that seems fine.

I thought that seemed like nonsense.

The construction guys keep leaving coolers sitting around the state capitol building. I havenā€™t let curiosity get the better of me yet.
