FWIW it also seems extremely unlikely that the actual game is a target, if you’re planning on hitting something like that you’d have to be a total moron to get everyone’s guard up by having a smaller attack the day before.

well that’s the opposite of the conclusion that all the derpers are jumping to, that this is some highly organized ISIS cell. But even dumb amateurs would not just be planting complete duds, would they? I mean they would have tested a couple of bombs somewhere to check that they actually knew what they were doing? Maybe I just have too much faith in humanity.

I think it’s just harder to do than you’d think.

A couple not-super-prestigious degrees in Tech, seems like a current Deloitte employee, failed realtor side hustle, failed side businesses that lost of lot of money, house in foreclosure, paid 15 years of child support, twice divorced, tens of K’s in debt at least.
Seems more like a Squid Game contestant than a terrorist.
My hot take is it feels like dog eat dog capitalism and life failures mixed with a violent unstable person. Said he considered murdering his entire family but decided to do this instead.

Domestic terrorists and assassins are frequently failures at life. The well organized group like AQ is the exception. McVeigh was a washed out security guard. Oswald was a mostly failed wannabe. Squeaky Fromme was a Manson groupie. That one weirdo who shot Lennon.
It’s rarely highly organized winning people that do this kind of shit, and far more often failures with not a ton to live for

Real estate agent is also like the last resort for people that failed at everything else. It’s the lowest cost of entry, zero skill, rent seeking position that a person can easily get into without needing to do anything productive. And some, I assume, are good people.

right, this is an important distinction, when you have government officials saying “we’re investigating this as terrorism” the public is thinking of the professional AQ style job (and that’s what law enforcement WANTS the public to think) but it’s much more likely it’s just some dipshit (or a very small group of dipshits) and basically nobody in the media even hints at this. bumbling dipshits aren’t good for ratings.
