Nevada Caucus Prediction & Discussion Thread

Because fuck them, that’s why. Bernie wouldn’t have remained an independent for 40 years if it weren’t for a healthy dose of fuck them.

On the one hand, sure, fuck them. On the other hand, any winning coalition is full of assholes and fuckheads. How about fucking those fuckheads by getting them to vote for the guy they ostensibly hate?

I can go either way on this. Good points on both sides.

I don’t think Tlaib would be a good choice politically, but also, well, I like her and her perspective and everything, but, well, she wouldn’t be my first choice.

I think Pressley would be ok and her having endorsed Warren would be a plus.

Yeah, I was doing a bit of devil’s advocacy. I am not entirely convinced by my own argument.

I’m not really talking about what I think is politically the best choice for Bernie, just how I think he rolls. I don’t think he’ll go more establishment than Liz. Whether he should or not, I don’t know. I don’t think it matter that much though. No one cares much about VP. Even epically bad choices like Palin and Quayle I don’t think really mattered and I don’t think Obama going out of his way to balance his ticket mattered either.

Bill does seem to be running for VP.

Me neither. All speculative.

I will say I definitely want Bernie, if he wins, to have a good VP, because 78 years old and all - also just one of the world’s most dangerous jobs.

I enjoy the HEAT but want no part of obviously corrupt political machine types like DeBlasio and Maxine Waters.

I’d agree, if he wasn’t the NYC mayor who dropped out of the race a long time ago and he attacked the south bend, IN mayor who is still running.

Liz should stay in as long as Bloomberg is around to punch in the face. Klob should try to outlast Buttigieg.

Sanders should consider demographic balance in a VP, but not ideological balance. He needs someone who is consistent with his anti-establishment message and not someone who makes him look like a compromising politician. Above all, he needs an ally who will back him and his agenda when he encounters resistance from the Democratic Party because it’s going to be lonely at the top when he’s not a member of either party.

De Blasio is an asshole but he can correctly spot a little prick.

VP is irrelevant. Fun for crazy people like us to speculate about but it just doesn’t matter.

Bernie needs someone that can attack for him so he can spend as much time as possible being likeable.

Maybe. I sort of disagree. Or at least, it depends on the candidate. I remember talking to people in deep red states who didn’t vote for McCain because they couldn’t accept the possibility that McCain would croak and Palin would be President. And I mean the sort of people who follow politics only as far as very occasionally watching Fox News leads them.

Yeah warren was my first choice but when I realized she was non viable (before Iowa), I switched to Bernie, who really wasn’t my second.

Although I am pretty sure Democrats will figure out how to fuck all this up and let trump win. The amount of pettiness in the media and party is enough to choke on.

My biggest issue is quibbling over specific policy planks. It’s missing the forest. It is like so many in the party and left actually believe the make believe law making that is sold to voters every four years instead of the reality of a gridlocked system where they still get out maneuvered.

Does Bernie even care? One of the more annoying things about some segments of the left on the Internet is their constant Need to express reactionary outrage on behalf of others, even when the “others” aren’t themselves outraged and are completely capable of defending themselves. Bernie is a sitting US Senator, he doesn’t need “Justice Dems” twitter to defend him from Chris fuckkng Mathews.

That’s actually tough. I don’t think it’s very likely in either instance, but I think Warren gets a slight nod.
