I actually don’t think this is as open and shut wrt salary cap circumvention as the Aspiration deal, but it’s amazing to watch Pablo just do random drivebys on other people while continuing to dig into the Kawhi story.
This time, he has Kawhi being a silent investor in a minor league soccer franchise in Rhode Island that basically got approval for a big project that would include (a) a privately financed stadium attached to a larger (b) partially publicly supported housing, office, and retail development. Shockingly, b/c money is fungible, when the stadium ran over budget, some public financing was approved for the stadium and none of the housing has been built yet. The guy who comes off looking the worst in the episode is the Governor who signed off on the deal and got hosted at a Clippers game by one of the lead investors.
i don’t have anything to add, i just want to point out that when you’re reading a post and see an extra sentence added in real time, it’s a little weird.
Rhode Island government seems to get caught up in the weirdest financing deals. They once financed a video game made by the Boston red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling. It was some development fund and Rhode Island lost like 45 million dollars.

Rhode Island is, or at least was, ridiculously corrupt. That definitely has something to do with it.

Apparently Paige Becker sand angel reese bet each other $400 on a game between their two teams. It was filmed and posted on social media and the WNBA even apparently reposted it to later delete it.

In case anyone doesn’t know VICI basically owns much of the land under a lot of strip casinos in Vegas. The casinos lease from VICI, which is wild af. It will work exactly the same for the arena. Whoever gets into bed with that is likely going to regret it unless it’s an operator that is already under the thumb of them, which is being claimed as Caesars who is trying to be sold right now.

Huh? It fits 18,000 for basketball (plus 2,000 standing room). That’s pretty standard capacity for NBA arenas.
The expansion team is going to cost like 8 billion dollars I think. For that the ownership probably wants access to a brand new arena.
