True, but neither sport requires players to be in motion for extended periods of time.
Off the top of my head, I can’t even think of a great but significantly overweight hockey player, soccer player or basketball player.
OTOH, Some female tennis players have a fair amount of extra body fat, but that’s on top of some incredible musculature and seemingly peak cardio fitness, so they’re not really “fat.”
Phil Kessel and Drew Doughty never worked out off ice a day in their lives. They both have insane natural athleticism and if they did work out would have been even better players, but looked like pudgy dough boys their whole careers.
It’s very confusing. Middleton is still good…caveat coming…when healthy. He still clearly hasn’t completely recovered from his double ankle surgeries, but he still has time before the playoffs. He can still contribute an easy 20 and his passing has been great - unmatched chemistry with Giannis. Can’t move defensively, though.
But yeah…Kuzma? And on top of it, the Bucks gave away their first round pick from this past draft. The kid obviously isn’t ready for the NBA, but he’s only 19 and is fast as hell and had potential. He was a project and they’re like, sure, have him for that pick swap. jfc
Unless Kuzma suddenly balls out, this makes the Bucks worse this year and probably hurts morale. Hopefully this does something for their salary cap situation to make other moves easier or something.
Saying middleton is still good is a stretch imo. He’s not a starting 5 caliber player in his condition and no real reason to think he’ll get there. But Kuzma has been a disaster for 8 seasons now. Why touch him
There used to be posters here telling me Bucks GM Horst was tremendous.
Seems only defensible if either
(A) Bucks have some inside knowledge that Kuzma hasn’t really been trying and will actually try going forward.
(B) Now that they can consolidate salaries, Bucks have some big time second deal where they wrap Connaughton and Portis together for something decent. Both those contracts seem negative to me.
