Why not just make a rule that a personal take foul inside the last 2 minutes is a single free throw for the fouled team plus they retain possession? Why have every close game descend into this unwatchable procession of fouls and free throws. I will never understand.

I’d prefer time runoff option. If you’re trailing and can’t get it back with time remaining, you’re of course going to take foul since contested inbound plays have relatively high turnover rates. It’s ridiculous how many times a trailing team can possess the ball in end game situations if they have timeouts. The sequence of take foul, timeout on made free throws, advance to half court, quick shot, take foul, repeat can happen in like 3-4 seconds.
