And the funny part they completely butchered (at least for now, of course this could look very different in two years) the 2nd overall pick they ended up getting.
Wiggins was a bad nba player at the time of the trade though. I wonder what the impact of Dryamond had been on making Wiggins such a solid defender in a relatively late stage of his career.
Coming out of the draft the consensus was Wiggins should be really good on defense. He was good in his one college year and had the tools.
The Minnesota teams he was on were bad and he was inefficient. It became clear he shouldnāt be a #2 guy, and with a #1 pick you usually want a #1 guy. Heās good as a 3rd/4th option, the other thing is that most other teams canāt fit a 3rd/4th option for that salary in their cap. Basically only the Warriors can.
Having the tools to be good at defense and being good at defense are two very different things. He played 6 seasons, almost uninjured and was never a good defender. He became a good defender with the Warriors. By definition he clearly had the tools for it, I just wonder how they were brought out and if Draymond, who has one of the best NBA defense mind perhaps ever, had a big impact on it.
You could look at all sorts of advanced stats, but Iād assume itās an easy answer. Itās easy to be āgoodā on defense when your teammates are, hard when they arenāt.
Itās not easy, no. Poole and Curry are both below average defenders as well. Wiggins was not a great defender when playing with Butler either. Not sure why you think that change is trivial, but it isnāt. Itās impressive and unexpected to the degree it happened.
Between the refs and commentary itās fucking unwatchable. So many horrible calls both ways, and JVG cries about every call Boston gets and applauds the Heat for flopping.
Agreeing with Mark Jackson is making me physically ill.
