“So that’s how it is in that family.”
- Yes. Less so than the other two, but yes.
- Don’t care?
- Douchebags.
- ?
- Terrible.
- Okay, minor points for this one. But it came so late in the film after I had mostly checked out.
- Stupid.
- Meh.
- Yeah, that’s a cool 10 second scene.
- Not really I guess, because a lot of 80s nostalgia movies don’t seem to be doing it for me.
Were you a hipster back then by any chance?
I’m not gonna rewatch it to see but think Ferris is more like 3/5 objectively which is what I call average, 4 on letterbox is criminal
And my personal opinion as someone that was born in 86 is that it’s more like 2.5
To hell with “objective,” IMO.
Ikiru is boring (except for the last 45 minutes, but getting there is a real slog). Come and See has limited artistic merit at best. The canon can be wrong.
It’s just not wrong about Ferris Bueller.
How old are you?
For someone that was born in ‘65, it really landed.
Thoughts on:
Risky Business
Porkys
16 Candles
License to Drive
Breakfast Club
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Weird Science
Say Anything
Im closer to EB than the rest of you. I remember enjoying Ferris when I grew up, but it hit much less for me on a watch a couple years ago. There are some very slow parts in that movie and everyone is a bit of dick.
Born in 83
Born in 80, just watched Ferris Bueller again thanks to this thread. I don’t get the hate at all. John Hughes was a special writer and filmmaker and this is near the top of his resume for me. I’d put it on my 80s high school film Mount Rushmore.
Looks something like
Fast Times
Ferris Bueller
Better Off Dead
Breakfast Club (weird science swapped out)
I could be swayed to swap out any of those but I’m comfortable with that list as I have it.
Weird Science is terrible. Breakfast Club and Fast Times are the gold standard of those teen comedies from the 80s, but Ferris holds its place well.
Ok I love Weird Science but I had clearly forgotten about Breakfast Club when I wrote that post and will now change it. Good call out
Born in 1978.
From that list, Breakfast Club is great. Fast Times I remember liking, but wonder if it holds up. Weird Science seemed okay, but that was a long time ago and I’m pretty sure I would not rate it as highly now.
The other 5 I have not seen.
Say Anything kind of operates in a different space, is less of a comedy than most of the list. It’s really good though.
Risky Business: no
Porky’s: no
16 Candles: yes
License to Drive: bad
Breakfast Club: yes
Fast Times at Ridgemont: no
Weird Science: no
Say Anything: yes
Hahaha YES!
I saw that movie over 100 times in high school
It’s so good
yeah the pitt-cruise fight was not fully fabricated by seedance, it was basically just putting their faces on existing footage
Now that does change things.
Better off dead is so good, and the South Park parody is even better.
