Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 3)

See the original. Prime Arnold. Two future governors and Apollo Creed.

I’ve only seen original Predator and loved it. If anything, I tend to overcorrect against giving sequels the time of day, but it does seem like these have a good enough rep to give them a go.

Really a stretch to call them sequels. More like an expansion of the universe.

But the ones I have seen, including the original, have been good. I never saw predator vs alien though.

I love Predator 2, Predator VS Alien is pretty good, PVA: Requiem is dog shit

I loved the original, seen it dozens of times. I’ve never even considered watching any of these followups, just assumed total dreck like Freddy vs Jason and the like. Then again I’ve never seen Freddy vs Jason, is that high art as well??

But then wouldn’t that make it get compared to The Thing?

Maybe in some ways but they’re kind of different movies. One thing that is really striking about original Predator is that the first part of the movie plays like a very sterotypical 80s action movie, with cheesy one liners and everything. 30 minutes into a 100 minute movie there is no indication of what’s going to happen next, and then WHAM the macho action stars are getting hunted down in a game of cat and mouse. The tone shift is jarring and adds a lot more tension that you would normally expect from a cheesy 80s action movie. It’s just a great film, a good example of a movie being better than it “should” be because the direction and casting and chemistry and setting are just pitch perfect.

If you’re a fan of those franchises and wanted to see that pairing, I think they did a decent job with it.

One thing about Prey is I had to manually change the audio language setting to Comanche, Hulu had it on the English dub by default for some absurd reason.

I don’t think it’s a dub.

They recorded two full audio versions; one Comanche one English.

The Comanche version hit very well, better than a dub would I think.

Did it have English subs?

I think so? On Hulu I just have the English audio.

Almost positive Hulu had the Comanche audio when it was released. I think it had a separate title from the english one though, you couldn’t just change the audio in menu.

Does scarjo not have a single PR advisor wtf

I guess she gets offered several million dollars to do Woody Allen movies. Paychecks for her are beginning to thin. They will thin even more for her now.

Woody’s 90 years old. Not sure how many movies he has left.
