I admit I wasn’t expecting you to dislike Bound, so I fear my Risky radar could be faulty, but…I think this will redeem me.
Right you’d think Bound was made in a lab just for me.
The Substance now on HBO MAX
Red Rooms. Then check out Dead Mail.
Red rooms then brutalist two best on that list.
Just when I think you couldn’t possibly get any dumber, you go…

Holy fuck that opening shot. Twenty minutes without a single cut!
Exceptionally well made.
This movie starts at an 11 and never slows down.
At no point did I know what was going to happen next.
The movie has to walk a very delicate tight rope and does so well.
Going to recommend this one to everyone ![]()
Ya the courtroom shot is elite. Even though they show nothing it still haunts me months later.
To offer some more insight…
Black Bag: since you’re a Soderbergh person, I’m confident you’ll like this. I think it’s good; it was the first movie this year that planted its flag as the best movie so far this year until it was surpassed.
The Girl with the Needle: this movie…is so fucking dark. The Danes really have some shit on their minds. Honestly, the unpleasantness tipped so far for me that it was hard to outright love the movie, but there’s a lot to recommend it. It’s visually gorgeous and extremely well made, and it’s not like the unpleasantness is unearned by the subject matter. It was deserving of its Best International Film nomination. Just realize that it’s going to make you uncomfortable.
Babygirl: Decent movie. Suffers from having Harris Dickinson play a character I can’t buy into at any point, but Nicole Kidman GOATs it up as she always tends to do, and I definitely liked the movie overall.
Nickel Boys: don’t take my word for it because I was a clear negative outlier, but I found it to be a slog. It makes an artistic choice with POV that you’ll either like or not like right away, and since it didn’t work for me the movie never really came together on my end. But others regard it as a masterpiece, so by all means see for yourself.
The Brutalist: great movie IMO, though I’m rattled by the fact that you seemed to be downright bored by Killers of the Flower Moon. Not that these two are the same movie at all, but I just don’t have a great feel for which long, loping dramas you’ll click with and which ones you won’t. Same as Nickel Boys, definitely see for yourself, but I can’t confidently declare how you’ll react to it.
Haven’t seen the rest. Pretty good word of mouth on The Order makes me think I’d probably like it once I get around to it. Reactions to Last Breath make me think I won’t dig it, so I’m inclined to skip it. The others I have truly zero insight on.

How does it compare to Speak No Evil?
Haven’t seen Speak No Evil, so unfortunately I couldn’t say.
You need to get on that. The original imo. The remake is just fine.
Seconding, the original is a fantastic movie. The remake is fine but has one of the worst third acts ever
Now you have to see Dead Mail.

Fucking hell. Didn’t feel like she would be anywhere near this radar.

Aw no
A House of Dynamite (2025)
Holy fuck. I didn’t breathe for two hours. This is the greatest horror film ever made. Nobody in the theatre moved for 3 minutes after it ended.
Grade: we are all so totally fucked.
Okay Trolly, I’ll report back in 90 minutes.
