Didn’t know about that. Whats it about?
Oh, for fucks sake, he did one of the short one-word titles again? Hate that he’s just made this one of his things. Hate it. I’ll still look forward to watching it.
I think Nope’s visuals are elite, I think its themes are a lot less on the nose than Get Out’s, it just feels like a richer text to try to puzzle out, and I feel more connected to the main characters.
I found Us to be a struggle. I’ll try again sometime. Peele gets the benefit of the doubt from me to assume that he merits a second watch if the first one doesn’t land.
Terror strikes when a promising young football player gets invited to train at a team’s isolated compound.
Me too. I liked Nope a lot more the second time. I read a lot of reviews and analysis that helped me appreciate the movie.
Note that Peele is only producing this. No writing or directing credit.
I’ve seen the preview twice in theaters and it feels like they may be trying too hard. Will be curious to see what the critics think.
Oh, glad you pointed that out. That downgrades it from “definitely watching” to “we’ll see how it looks going into it.”
Oh dunk, this looks great.
I assume he had some degree of quality control and creative input. It was produced by his studio Monkeypaw Productions. The script was very popular before it got made.
I thought the trailer looked good. Monkeypaw’s other movie was Monkey Man. They were also behind BlacKkKlansman. Jordan Peele produced Lovecraft Country, as well as the two most recent seasons of Twilight Zone and I thought those were excellent.
So based on a good script and a good studio, I am definitely hoping for the best. I’ll rest easy when the reviews come in.
I think I’m here, though you keep track of this stuff better than I do, so I may have missed one or two.
- Judas and the Black Messiah
- Past Lives
- Poor Things
- The Father
- Promising Young Woman
- Argentina, 1985
- RRR
- Sound of Metal
- American Fiction
- Barbie
It shames me that you have a movie on your list that I haven’t even seen (Argentina, 1985). I know it’s supposed to be really good. It’s on my watchlist.
By the way, I had definitely forgotten until today that Past Lives spends like five seconds lingering on a book signing where Arthur’s book is revealed to be titled “BONER.”
Oppenheimer is legitimately terrible and will age terribly. It got hyped to the moon and that carried the day but the movie itself is a dreadful bore. And i like the men im rooms talking to each other genre.

Ha, I noticed that on first watch and got a chuckle out of it.
Gonna rewatch this soon. Also Lost in Starlight on Netflix is giving me Past Lives vibes so Ill probably check that out soon too.
Gonna see Dogma in the theater tonight. Never actually seen it all the way through so im excited for it
Will have to think about my top ten more, but my top 5 go
- Banshees of Inisherin
- Past lives
- Everything Everywhere All at Once
- Anatomy of a Fall
- Top Gun: Maverick
I need to check out Banshees of Inisherin again. Didn’t do too much for me when I watched it, but maybe I missed something.
I always just figured that we as a society had moved past that movie and acknowledged it as a phase, like wearing Crocs or using Facebook.
The story is fairly straightforward with a few fun twists, but what puts it so high for me is its just 4 powerhouses of performance in a single movie. Every single one of the 4 leads deserved award recognition.
When Gleeson is the least best actor in your film, youve got something really special
For me, seeing a movie in a theater comes down to having fun a lot of the time (See TG:Maverick) and there are few movies I enjoyed more the first time in theaters than EEAAO
Not least best actor. Least strong performance
