Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 3)

The trilogy where no role was played by the same actor twice?

Together (2025)

Man, I just don’t know. It’s a great premise. Dave and Alison are magnetic. What a couple. The body horror is horrifying and sometimes funny (but not for long). The ending was horrifying yet…heartfelt? I liked it.

But it wasn’t quite what I was expecting. I guess I was hoping for the same kind of experience as The One I Love, which is not body horror but does use other elements of horror and a high concept to explore a dysfunctional relationship.

If you are a fan of the body horror genre, I would say this is a good one to watch at least once. But it’s not so out of this world well done that I’d recommend it to those who don’t usually enjoy the genre.

And for what it is, it’s exceptionally well executed. There are even a couple of minor but clever twists. I just didn’t connect with parts of the script and dynamic. And I don’t know that I’d say it’s one that demands to be seen in a theater.

Sold! I’ll pass.

But I do think it’s cool for a real life couple to do this sort of project together. To hear industry pros say it, people who are actually a thing have a tendency to struggle with the on-screen chemistry if anything, so I’m glad if they pulled that aspect off.

I saw a ton of advertisement for this movie and I like Allison and Dave but I am not big into horror and I knew enough from the commercials/previews that I am definitely not into body horror (didn’t know this was a genre).

At its core Multiplicity is about 117 minutes long.

I am certain that I will be hearing all my search results in the voice of Gregg Turkington for some time to come.

the new TV show motivated me to rewatch Alien for the first time in 25 years and wow it is a perfect movie huh

very organic and feels tangible in a way that none of the sequels manage (or try ?) to replicate

wish I could erase all movie memories and go into this one blind. being a moviegoer in the 70s must have been insane, getting your mind blown every other month, did they know how good they had it ? now we’re left with the scraps

Agree that it is a great flick, but hard to go in blind when the title spoils the movie

I saw Alien in the theater at 10 or 11 years old. Blew my kid mind to smithereens. Still my favorite movie and yeah I think the most perfect movie ever made. Or at least that I experienced in the theater, which will never be the same as watching on TV the first time.

Alien: The Auditory Experience

The Brother is an alien who has crash-landed on Earth, in New York City. While mute, strongly empathic, and able to fix things, he resembles a Black man with strange feet. His attempt to make a place for himself in Harlem is an allegory for the immigrant experience in the United States. Meanwhile, two bounty hunters from the Brother’s home planet arrive and try to capture him.

Apparently this is a very well reviewed movie? My coworker recommended it. It’s free on Tubi.

PTA: Stop trying to call me an auteur. It’s pretentious.

In the Boogie Nights Q&As, he comes across very not pretentious and clearly has a good sense of humor. You can still tell he’s a big fan of himself, but he doesn’t come across cringe like Nolan sometimes does.

Fucking AMC made me throw away my leftover Jersey Mike’s before going into Weapons. I hope they go bankrupt!
