Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 3)

A Mistake (2024) is a New Zealand movie about a veteran surgeon (Elizabeth Banks) who in the middle of surgery let’s an inexperienced colleague take over, leading to a catastrophe that upends the surgeon’s life and career.

In the midst of this, she is fighting against the New Zealand hospital system’s plan to publish all surgeon’s outcomes for transparency. Her point is that no surgeon will want to risk their career on bad outcomes if bad stats cost them their jobs. Lots of people will die because no surgeon will touch them.

You can’t help but see the reason she’s so resistant is in part because she’s facing the catastrophe of what just happened in surgery.

The ending was a little predictable, but I was gripped the whole way through by Elizabeth Banks. She’s been in so many good movies playing a wide variety of roles. Effie brings it.

Oh and the protagonist is a lesbian so yes yes we are loving the representation :fire:
