What are some of your favorite scary movies? I’ll suggest a few alternates in line with your tastes.
Let’s see. I love The Shining and The Exorcist. I thought Saw was pretty good, although torture porn isn’t really in my wheelhouse. Gore isn’t my favorite, although e.g. Dead Alive was so ridiculous that I didn’t mind. I liked Scream (original, haven’t seen any subsequent ones) and to a lesser degree It Follows. I was enjoying Hereditary up until the ending, which was terrible and didn’t make any sense in the context of the movie. I didn’t really love Midsommar, but I really enjoyed Get Out, the original Candyman, and The Thing
Consider Doctor Sleep or Barbarian
Both great options. Ill throw in Trick R Treat and Scare Me as two more indy type films.
Barbarian was the runner up to Hereditary last year, but it was an arbitrary choice, as we followed the advice not to look into either movie. I somehow hadn’t heard of Doctor Sleep, but it sounds like it’s in my wheelhouse based on the one sentence IMDB pitch.
My work is already done. You should double feature Barbarian and Doctor Sleep (director’s cut). Those were INCREDIBLE.
Or Doctor Sleep paired with Psycho II for sequels to horror classics that have no business being so good. Yes I’m gonna keep pounding the table for Psycho II.
Alas, I’m only going to get 1.
Alas!
I’d go with Barbarian because it’s so original and full of surprises.
@CanadaMatt3004 Hopefully the lack of update just means you didn’t get to The Godfather at the planned time. Or that you’re so stunned by the greatness that you can’t form the words. But since 2001 got a grade of “not great,” I’m nervous that it could be something else.
Barbarian was awesome. Highly recommend. Also not that scary and I am a horror wimp.
You’d take that over No One Will Save You?
I loved both but would give barbarian the edge. One is scifi one is sort of a monster movie.
Barbarian had my favourite moment in a film last year though. Still smile thinking about it. It’s a film nerd thing though.
I would take watching Barbarian twice over seeing No One Will Save You once.
The latter is well made and I’m not saying it’s anything but good, even great, but it is not the home run Barbarian turned out to be.
Fortunately I don’t have to choose
Absolutely choose Barbarian over No One Will Save You if those are your two options.
THEY FOLLOW
Oh hell yeah this is gonna be good
After watching Anatomy of a Fall and Killers of the Flower Moon in the same week, I’m ready for some snappy movies
An orgy results in the community transmission of slow-moving killers.
Revolutionary Road is still amazing. The Michael Shannon scenes are just epic.
