Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 2)

Finally saw The Holdovers. Could’ve probably dropped a half hour but I liked it.

Molly’s Game is among the best poker movies and is easily the second best Holdem movie. It begins with a striking series of voiceovers by Molly Bloom that set the breakneck pace for the rest of the movie. Her explanation of Holdem is as easy to follow as Rounders, and the hands are great examples of playing poker, bluffing, going on tilt, losing to absurd coolers, all mixed in with great characters suffering the degen disease.

Might be time for me to read the book.

I assume Daniel Day Lewis gets an honorary disqualification from this. Maybe Tom Hanks, Streep or Leo too.

For me outside of the pantheon and being totally recency-biased it’s probably Gosling. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is a tiny bit older one.

I think There Will Be Blood is the best film of the past 30 years and I think Lincoln is really strong and otherwise I haven’t loved a DDL movie. I definitely haven’t seen them all though.

He does bring the heat every time, but even when he GOATed it up in Gangs of New York the movie was just decent to me.

I changed my mind, it’s Matt Damon I think. His performances never wow me, but his filmography is incredible

Was reminded about the Macon Blair directed Toxic Avenger from last year and found this on wikipedia. Damn

As of 2024, the film remains unreleased for wider audiences due to ongoing difficulties in securing a distributor. It has been described as “unreleasable” due to its gore and graphic content. Filmmaker and producer Adam Masnyk stated on X that no distributors have come forward, citing concerns that it is “not safe enough to market,” and suggesting it could potentially become lost media

Oh that brings back memories, I think I saw part of that as a kid hanging out with friends.

Dude I think the original is right up your alley. It’s certainly not for everyone so I wouldn’t recommend it to a broad audience but you like twisted shit so give it a go

Doesn’t look like the most original plot, BUT…I’m here for the Ke Huy Quan renaissance. And Marshawn Lynch? And Sean Astin makes an appearance.

Yeah, this will be fun.

100% here for Lynch becoming a bona fide movie star.

Also, you missed Ke Huy Quannaissance.

Yeah, its essentially Nobody if it was less gritty but, bring it on. Nothing wrong with going to see something fun at the theaters.

A History of Violence too. But as you said, looks like fun.

I rewatched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind last night. At first, I thought wat, has the movie or me lost its mojo? But within half an hour, I was back into an elite love story told in the weirdest fashion. Stacked cast too.
