Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 2)

Didn’t even know there was a sequel. Guess I know what I’m watching this weekend.

I like it but there are many who dont. Its literally a different genre, while still utilizing the same concept and cast. I think you’ll enjoy it.

Anything that gets more Jessica Rothe on the screen is a positive

Though the naming convention is kinda dumb

I have been mainlining bad reviews all day with glee.

Gives me hope for film as an art form that this piece of shit is going down like the Hindenburg.

I’d have been surprised and maybe happy if it had turned out to be good (I mean really surprised), but reports definitely make it sound as bad and soulless as expected.

Ya I normally don’t pay any attention to movies I don’t find interesting but this series is so utterly debased, soulless, and morally reprehensible that I can’t help but find its downfall enjoyable.

On the positive side, I’m super stocked to see my old ass tomorrow.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)

Since I like The Twilight Zone, the long-form Twilight Zone vibes worked for me for a decent while. I did feel like it ran out of juice to some extent as the movie wore on, and at some point it became kind of palpable that I wasn’t truly feeling any of the intensity that the movie seemed to be driving for.

Philosophically the movie is sort of an interesting one to think on, but if it’s correctly understood to be an anti-Communist piece then it feels a bit overly simplistic in its attempted symbolism.

I don’t know. The review is coming across as more negative than my feeling about the movie. I do think it’s pretty good and has strengths that recommend it, but I also get the sense that it missed me more than it missed the average viewer. Still a little bit interested in trying to watch the 1978 remake in the future, but that’s probably something for a future October.

It is kind of funny to me that this featured a leading man who I could only see as one of the random sleazy politicians from The Distinguished Gentleman (1991), a movie that increasingly doesn’t exist at this point.

You should be very interested in the 78 remake. Its quality is akin to The Fly remake. The one I’d go hmmm and wait on is The Invasion.

My most feared version of the story is a cheap knockoff called Invaders from Mars. It gave me nightmares for years as a kid.

The frog scene had me shitting bricks when I was a kid…I rewatched it last year and it’s still pretty effective. The set with the hill behind the kid’s house is really cool and makes for some spooky images.
