Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 2)

Hope you like those as much as I do. I’m planning to take advantage of the Best Picture rerelease to get in a theater viewing of Past Lives this weekend too even though it’s not a movie that screams for a huge screen. Otherwise I’ve seen all the BP nominees in the theater until I get to Zone of Interest. Zone of Interest is playing at a nearby arthouse starting this weekend, but I’d sure like my local AMC to add it soon instead.

That sucks. Why you gotta pee in my Cheerios? :joy:

Gyllenhaal needs to play a weirdo. I think I made my wife watch Zodiac and Nightcrawler in the same week and she doesn’t look at him the same anymore.

I’m in the same boat except nearest place to me was an hour away, but I just checked today and one of the local amc’s seems to have it starting next thurs Feb 1st so hopefully I can see it next weekend, been wanting to see it badly

Also has anyone seen perfect days?

No, but definitely want to. I see it’s coming near me on 2/23 to the same place getting Zone of Interest in my area, but again no idea on AMC. That one and The Taste of Things are both pretty high on my anticipation list among foreign-language films.

Yea same here it’s coming to the one that’s an hour drive

I don’t know if I’ll be able to watch Zone of Interest. Just sounds too depressing.

Sort of feeling same.

Obviously the concept for Zone of Interest is super dark, but I haven’t gotten the impression from descriptions of it that it will rate among the most depressing films I’ve watched.

My biggest misgiving probably comes from the fact that it’s a Jonathan Glazer film, and his other highly lauded film Under the Skin just didn’t work for me despite many thinking it’s a masterpiece.

Still, definitely going to see Zone of Interest when I can.

Just bought tix for Dune 2 on imax feb 25.

American fiction was great.

I busted out laughing during the whole he’s got a gun scene at the end

Watched Thelma & Louise for the first time. Man, I figured I would enjoy the movie, but this was excellent and surpassed my expectations. Great lead characters, great chemistry between Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon (much less chemistry between Sarandon and Michael Madsen, but that’s a relatively small consideration), really strong pacing as the movie starts off at a good quality level that only ever incrementally increases as the movie goes along. Ending is pretty legendary for good reason. High marks pretty much all the way around. ā€œPretty muchā€ because Christopher McDonald was an overacting buffoon every time he was on screen. I forgive everyone for his performance. 4.5/5.

Thanks for mentioning this! Just did the same and scooped some of the last prime viewing seats.

Looks to now be confirmed as a fully wide release next week. So obviously I’ll wait a week now.

I haven’t seen this yet, but it’s written and produced by some of Stuart Gordon’s old crew, so I’m confident it will be fun if you like classics like Castle Freak and Reanimator.
