Watching a couple noirs mentioned here earlier
Finally managed to catch this one. It’s good ! Feels like the 70s Italian movies are so much enhanced by the cool music they have. I liked all of it but my favorite parts are definitely the ones where there’s no dialogue and just music at full volume while someone is driving through Milan or whatever. (The opening that you mention is indeed a+)
If Caliber 9 is a violent Italian twist on the noir genre, this one is just the classical formula pushed to perfection ? Old noirs can sometimes miss bc all the archetypes have been done/remade/parodied a million times but when it’s this good…Glad I watched it, should have done so a lot earlier…you all probably already know this but yeah it’s perfect.
Also I guess Barbara Stanwyck’s hair in this was the inspiration for Patricia Arquette’s in the second half of Lost Highway ? (These 1940s hairstyles are weird imo, her scheme would have never worked on me…)
