Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

There is Sin City and then there is everything else.

Iā€™ll file that in the ā€˜none of themā€™ category, with a sub-folder of ā€˜Frank Miller fanā€™.

I assumed he meant el Mariachi.

The only Kevin Smith movie I like is Clerks.

To verify this I just checked his IMDB, and am I the only person who didnā€™t know that Kevin Smith was a co-executive producer on Good Will Hunting?

Chasing Amy is decent too.

Yep

I remember liking Dogma, but itā€™s been many years.

Actually ya thatā€™s decent too. He really tanked in the latter half of this career though. Yikes.

Ya the movies Kevin Smith made in the 90ā€™s were good. Anything he made after that has sucked.

I think heā€™s been focused on smoking weed and his podcast empire instead of film making. Fair enough.

Lol you guys are crazy, chasing amy is horribly cringeworthy in 2020.

I havenā€™t seen it since it came out so canā€™t say for sure. Whatā€™s cringeworthy? Seems like it was early film to acknowledge female sexual fluidity. Iā€™m sure Iā€™m forgetting something bad. It is smith after all.

Whatā€™s wrong with Smith? Or do you just mean the juvenile humor?

I donā€™t remember it that well because it was a long time ago that I saw it, but are you referring to the way he writes dialogue? To me heā€™s an extremely poor, destitute, Skid Row David Mamet wannabee. It worked (mostly) in a grainy, $30K budget indie shot in the off hours of a convenience store, but otherwise I have never enjoyed it, including Chasing Amy and Dogma.

What do you think of his Q&As?

Skip to 2:15 for him to start the story by addressing a rumor that he ghostwrote Good Will Hunting.

I just meant given his humour I wouldnā€™t be surprised if there was something in it that looks bad by 2020 standards. I donā€™t remember though.

Iā€™m specifically referring to JLA being a lesbian until late 90s smoldering ben affleckā€™s dick shows up not exactly aging well

Thatā€™s an odd take. If we know anything since then itā€™s that female sexuality if far more fluid than menā€™s. Itā€™s super common for women to move from heterosexual to lesbian to bisexual back and fourth throughout life.

The important difference is that in The Happening they make up some BS sciencey explanation for why nature is trying to kill everyone with neurotoxins or whatever. In The Birds, itā€™s a complete mystery, which is way better.

Iā€™ll drop it because um I donā€™t really care but someone else also did not think it aged well
