I’d have to watch to again I guess.
The Scaredy Cats Horror Show | Gimlet
A new podcast about scary movies for people who are too scared to ever watch them.
I’d have to watch to again I guess.
But without that explanation, we would not have gotten a scene where the characters survival depends on them literally being able to outrun the wind.
Second only to that scene in The Day After Tomorrow where Jake G and the kids are scrambling in an iced over library to stoke a fireplace enough to fight off a gust of wind so cold that it froze and shattered everything in its path–until it meets that fireplace.
I am a bit of a scardy cat so haven’t seen many horror films. The guys from my favourite podcast, Reply All, are doing a second one where they try to get a scardy cat like me to appreciate horror.
A new podcast about scary movies for people who are too scared to ever watch them.
Next week it’s will be Alien so I decide to watch it for the first time.
Not surprisingly, it’s so good. I can’t believe how awesome it looks for 1979. Practical effects beats CGI any day. I wouldn’t say it was super scary but has it’s moments. The pacing and tension are so well done.
Grade: A
This is really sad.
The shocking and sad news of Lynn Shelton dead was confirmed by her collaborator and recent romantic partner Marc Maron. The filmmaker was 54.
You absolutely have to see the sequel. Rest of the Alien movies are meh.
I’ve seen it cause I knew it wasn’t a horror movie. It is great.
For all its faults I still like Prometheus. Sure, every human character is really dumb. The lore and twists are not the best moments, but it’s still good.
I also like Prometheus, but almost everyone else hated it.
Also, I have a thread about Alien: Resurrection

Watched Top Gun tonight and it hasn’t aged well at all. It’s an OK action movie but a 100% cringeworthy love story and more homoeroticism than a film full of Hobbits. Here’s hoping the sequel is better.
I actually disagree. The action still holds up because there is no CGI, which is very rare for an 80s action movie that wasn’t about cops.
Just rewatched Aliens recently and I really like the Gorman character. Sure he was in over his head but in the end he did his best and went back for Vasquez.
It’s kind of insane how many characters in that movie are fully realized great characters.
Half the movies I watch I can’t even remember the main character’s name. Like what’s the main character’s name in Prometheus? lol. I remember I watched Aliens and forgettable but enjoyable tennis movie Wimbledon in the same day a few weeks ago. I didn’t look up any of the Aliens characters and I can’t even remember what Paul Bettany’s character’s name is in Wimbledon. Yes I’ve seen Aliens more than Wimbledon but I’ve watched Wimbledon two or three times. And Aliens maybe five or six times at most.
Also the special director’s edition is straight garbage, the movie is way better without the cut scenes. Newt’s family discovering the Alien ship kills the mystery of the Marines landing. Terrible.
So much this. They gilded the fuck out of the lily trying to recapture the magic of the first one.
The fuck right off might still be in play. Really depends on whether theyve seen the original.
Naw, its still a fuck right off. There was zero chance of them translating this to film in an appropriate manner. Cant wait for the shitshow that the live version of “Akira” will be.
Love this scene so much…
Hudson: Hey Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?
Vasquez: No, have you?

I maintain that the movie is 100% improved if you assume Maverick and Iceman have already boned before the start of the movie
I enjoyed the one about the teenagers being kidnapped by a religious cult
Hitchcock isn’t scary. It’s even less scary than our current generation of Mom Horror (Bird Box, Quiet Place, Us).
VVitch was good horror. Martyrs. One Cut of the Dead for something different.
I’d be surprised if someone doesn’t find Psycho scary the first time they see it.
Pretty wrecked to learn that Gentlemen isn’t good, I’ve always had Ritchie as super underrated and wish he did more stuff. Snatch is one I’ve watched many times and can always watch again, Dennis Farina kills it RIP RIP
