Watch El Royale last night and enjoyed it, a rather different role for Jeff Bridges and a kooky fun script
Agree, it was fun to piece together the stories from the different participantsâ perspectives.
Peanut Butter Falcon (2019)
Completely unexpected joy of a movie. An absolute breath of fresh air in these awful times. I smile and laughed through the entire thing.
A movie that will lift the weight.
Does look good. Check out that audience score, yikes.
I donât get the point of a Joker film without Batman, like their whole thing is that theyâre in a weird co-dependent relationship.
Someone should do a super-dark Harley Quinn movie that focuses on her psychologically abusive relationship with the Joker, there are some legitimately interesting themes there that no one has ever really taken seriously afaict.
Joker is the only interesting character in Batman. Batman himself is boring as shit as is every other villain.
The superheros are almost always boring. Whatâs great about Batman is that he has so many A+ supervillains in the mix that you donât even notice. The only really good Batman actor is GOAT Adam West.
âThis is MY logâ
I caught âCan You Ever Forgive Me?â on HBO last night, fantastic performances from both of these people, Melissa McCarthy shows she has dramatic acting chops and I hope she gets more roles like this
According to the Wiki entry for McCarthyâs character (which you should not read if you donât like spoilers) the role was originally cast with Julianne Moore but she was fired from the project. I love Moore but I think the movie would not have worked as well with her.
Yep, I loved it too.
Finally watched âSorry to Bother Youâ yesterday. Great movie, funny and insightful, and very fitting for Labor Day weekend.
Iâm posting this here in case some of you donât check out the other places where I posted this.
If any of you have nothing to do on September 15 at 2pm, I suggest trying to go see the movie El Norte that will be playing as a Fathom Event. It was made in 1983, and was nominated for Oscar for Original Screenplay. Hereâs the logline:
Peasants escaping mindless labor and a murderous Guatemalan government head to America in hopes for something better.
This movie managed to help change immigration laws in the U.S. due to the humanity it brought to the situation the people were fleeing from. One of the protections this movie helped bring to refugees was rescinded this year by the Trump administration resulting in the deportations of many people who have lived in this country for 30 years. The movie is far more timely now than it was 35 years ago, and it was timely then too. I wish someone would glue Stephen Millerâs eyes open and force him to watch it on repeat, even though Iâve never personally seen it. I will on September 15, and hope some of you will too. Iâm going to cross post this in two other places.

Hollywood has run out of ideas
I would sooner destroy a stained glass window than remake a movie such as this.
Agree BUT this is not a recent phenomenon. Theyâve been short on ideas almost since the beginning. Go count how many times Tarzan was remade before any of us was even born.
I hope Rob Reiner tells them to fuck off, assuming he owns the rights.
Weâre doomed for nothing more than live-action cartoons for the rest of our lives.
No, the problem is that we keep telling them, a few billion dollars at a time, that we want to see sequels and reboots. Thereâs no end of new ideas.
100% this.

I guess Us and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood were originals. So more Disney remakes than originals in the top 20.
Jesus christ how did Aladdin make so much money? When I first saw a trailer for that with Will Smith as the genie I burst out laughing because it looked so bad. Then I noticed in subsequent trailers he wasnât in them at all.
