Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

How did Us do so well? It was in theaters for like ten minutes. I swear I saw an ad for it in theaters and like a week later directv had it available for download

That list makes me hate humanity. The MCU can eat a dick. Superhero movies are so awful.

It was really good? OK, not really good, but it was good.

Thereā€™s a part of me that canā€™t knock the hustle. Disney spent decades making amazing content. Like from 1930-1990 they just made quality shit and no one was anywhere close. OK, maybe by the late 80ā€™s anime studios were making cool stuff. And even with their 3D animated stuff they occasionally find gold, like with Toy Story.

Itā€™s basically a no-brainier move: reboot everything and just make hay for 30 years off of live-action classic that Gen-Xers will feel obligated to bring their kids to. I mean, fuck it, they put the work in, why not coast for a while.

They arenā€™t stopping any time soon eitherā€¦

Toy Story came out in 1995 and Toy Story 2 in 1999. Disney didnā€™t acquire Pixar until 2006. Toy Story 3 was OK, I hear the fourth one is good but havenā€™t seen it.

Fourth one is ok if you get past the fact that they totally went against the ethos of the whole series. It really didnā€™t need to be made.

Iā€™m not really current on childrenā€™s movies, but theyā€™ve had a few solid hits over the years, right? Frozen, Coco, Wreck-It-Ralph?

I absolutely loved Inside Out and Coco. Frozen and Wreck-It-Ralph were solid.

I like brainless comedies, and with that said I can recommend Good Boys. It is exactly what you think it is.

Just saw Ad Astra. I hated it. A lot! Itā€™s filled with the dumbest people ever written for film.

Had to come home and watch one of the best recent sci-fi films, Arrival, to cleanse myself of one of the worst.

Yesterday, for the first time since 2014, I went to a theater for a movie: Joker.

Enjoyed it a lot and I highly recommend it to most. You donā€™t have to be a fan of batman movies to like it, but itā€™s not for everyone because itā€™s on the dark and nihilistic side.

Edit - didnā€™t mean that as a reply to smac lol

El Camino was fine imo. No more no less.

My favorite movie is Mulholland Drive during which I fell asleep about 3/4 of the way through. Never caught the end which just adds to the mystique imo.

This

and some of this

Canā€™t even remember the last movie I caught in theater. Saw Transformers in 1986 and Batman in 1989 and I triple dog dare one of you to tell me Iā€™ve missed anything since then.

Yeah, this was my take too. I found some of the plotting a bit unbelievable.

The Dark Knight was pretty good. And also The Matrix? And Mad Max: Fury Road was really great. Otherwise, you havenā€™t missed much. Fuck theaters, I go to them all the time but I donā€™t even know why.
