Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

So glad 1917 didn’t win best picture.

LOL there are so many!!!

This one.

Hahahahahahahaha great speech by Sandler.

First off, it’s great to see Aubrey Plaza again. Aubrey and I did a movie entitled Funny People eleven years ago. That was actually the last time critics pretended not to hate me for five fucking minutes.

I would like to give a shoutout to my fellow nominees, who will now forever be known as the guys who lost to Adam Sandler.

So let all of those feather-haired douchebag motherfuckers get their Oscars tomorrow night. Their handsome good looks will fade in time, while our independent personalities will shine on forever.

The final battle from Revenge of the Sith if Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck had done the voices of Obi-Wan and Darth Vader.

Like I might have sort of missed it because I didn’t watch it all in one sitting, but the one message this seemed to get across to me was that the factory could not be profitable unless all thought of a union was stamped out. They weren’t profitable for the longest time, then they crushed all hopes of a union and fired anyone even kind of organizing, then all of the sudden it was uber profitable. Workers of the world unite? fuck you.

Fun fact I just learned: From her work with Chernobyl and Joker, Hildur Guðnadóttir has earned three-quarters of an EGOT in less than six months.

Gonna be tough to get the T though, scoring a Broadway musical isn’t really a thing she would do. Still holding out hope that Matt and Trey pick up an Oscar one day, all they have to do is make Book of Mormon into a movie and have it not suck, probably.

Then be up on the stage accepting the award all

Watched a couple of pretty good movies this weekend. First one was “The Other Guys” which is actually a pretty hilarious movie. I liked it just as much as the simarly absurdist Anchorman or Step Brothers, also made by Adam McKay. Whalberg is a great straight man imo.

Couple of great scenes, doesn’t spoil too much:

Then I also watched Blood Father, staring Mel Gibson, William Macy and Erin Moriarty (Starlight from The Boys, great series btw).

I know, I know, Mel Gibson. He’s good in this though, and the action and pacing of the movie is terrific. Just moves relentlessly forward, good movie.

Do I remember right that 30 Rock came up with EGOTs? It feels like something that always existed. Hilarious if it started as a joke.

Nope it goes back more than that. This was actually just discussed on last weeks episode of /Filmcast.

I think Arivo only needs the Oscar and she’s only 33

No. Stop it. Not everything needs to be remade!

Not a remake. It will tell stories in between parts of the film. Joon ho involved.

This is not a remake. He developed the story in two ways. One that could exist within a feature film–and one that fills in what in hindsight are obvious questions and gaps.

If it’s at least as surprising and inventive as the first season adaptation of From Dusk til Dawn, I’ll be hyped.

Halfway through Parasite and it’s the Goat film, over.

There are some good videos about Parasite on YouTube, as well. It’s really interesting to show how the shots are framed and what-not.
