lol the wife made me (aka was going to bail) turn off Parasite after 1/2 hour because āit didnāt have any likable charactersā yeah IDK. She has a point but it was pretty clear even then it was something else.
My wife wanted See Itās a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, but I wasnāt in the mood for it that night. I convinced her to see Parasite instead. She thanked me afterward and she just thanked me again.
Sorry I went off on a rant there right when the best picture award dropped, you guys, but seriously, watch American Factory. Keep your eyes peeled for all that āclash of culturesā stuff between poor Midwesterners and poor Chinese factory workers that is supposed to be a real thing. Workers of the world need to unite, thatās what Iām all about right now.
I never once cared at all about the Oscars, but this is incredible to me. 2019 was a year full of absolutely amazing movies, but Parasite was the nuts. Iām gobsmacked that a Korean-language movie with a class warfare undertow won.
I was with Bong Joon-Ho in assuming that because he won the premiere international award, it was a consolation prize so the other awards could go elsewhere. Iām so pleased that Parasite swept. That guy is going to be drunk eight sheets to the wind tonight.
Also I am now at 6 years in a row on incorrectly predicting best picture. Pretty sure I am a curse at this point. Generally do well except for the big prize. At least the last time I was correct was the last time I had some money on it.
To be fair, itās become much harder since they went to (up to) ten BP nominees per year. And several of the more recent ones came from left field. I think the main reason is too many choices diluting the voting and allowing dark horses to sneak in and grab it. I donāt recall what the markets were saying but I donāt know of a single person who predicted Green Book, for example.
