Used to read Ebert weekly before his death. Think that was the celebrity death that made me the saddest. Life Itself is such a beautiful movie.
Ebert has the best paragraph ever written in his review of North
I hated this movie. Hated hated hated hated hated this movie. Hated it. Hated every simpering stupid vacant audience-insulting moment of it. Hated the sensibility that thought anyone would like it. Hated the implied insult to the audience by its belief that anyone would be entertained by it.
I canāt believe Iād never heard of this movie before, it is exactly in my wheelhouse: grimy neo-noir with Peter Falk and John Cassavetes. Iām loving it. Imagine if a bunch of John Wick assassins are out to kill you but then Columbo rescues you and you hang out in New York, that is the vibe of this movie.
The TMZ article (cited by the tweet) says alleged victim is his GF and they got in a fight in a cab on their way home from a bar when she tried to get his phone to see who he was texting.
In a statement obtained by the BBC, Mr Majorsā lawyer said the actor was ācompletely innocentā and alleged the star was the victim of the altercation involving a woman known to him.
Priya Chaudhry said: "We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently.
"This evidence includes video footage from the vehicle where this episode took place, witness testimony from the driver and others who both saw and heard the episode, and most importantly, two written statements from the woman recanting these allegations.
So this could be like when Tiffany Haddish was pressed with charges of sexually inappropriate behavior toward a minor, but she held her tongue while evidence was forthcoming until charges were dropped.
I donāt think this is potentially like the Justin Roiland situation, where charges were dismissed because they could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, such as with Trumpās āexonerationā despite an enormous amount of evidence and testimony showing these things are true even if there are technicalities preventing legal consequences.
