Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

No mention of All Quiet on the Western Front? I thought it was excellent and edges out 1917 imo.

I thought it was better than 1917 too.

The Stranger on Netflix is a solid 7/10. A quiet Australian crime drama in the vein of Mystery Road and Dry. I wish I didn’t know anything about the plot before watching because the basics of what’s going on aren’t revealed right away. But still enjoyed it quite a bit, like I do with pretty much anything in this little subgenre.

Just tell me one thing: is about sitting on one’s hand until it’s numb?

Got my Moviepass sign up email. Sadly the cheapest subscription with less perks is only 5 bucks less a month than the AMC theater subscription and all we have is AMC around here. Oh well.

We’re just chasing the dragon. Moviepass was a once in a lifetime comet that has passed us by; we just need to be thankful for the good times and free movie tickets it gave us when it happened.

…although $5 off my current theater subscription would be a sick deal…

finally saw Top Gun Maverick. it’s the same exact movie, so it lived up exactly to expectations

The limitations on it kind of equaled them out. 1 weekend movie or 2 weekday movies or 3 Tuesday movies a month for 12 dollars VS AMC’s A list of 3 movies a week at any time for 20 dollars a month. So actually 8 dollars difference, and the Moviepass caters more towards the casual crowd.

You won’t think that once you read the death theory. :grinning:

For those not aware, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story drops on The Roku Channel of all places tomorrow. Sitting at a 90% RT from 55 critics, its getting favorable comparisons to Walk Hard which is a huge complement. Really looking forward to it.

Oh man, the upcoming Troll on Netflix looks awesom

Watched this last night. This is not the first time that I start an 80s movie thinking it will be light fun and it turns out to be the exact opposite. This one really makes it seem like it was an absolutely horrible time to live in (especially funny considering all the period nostalgia we see these days), just filled with despicable characters.

“What’s your damage ?” lol
(Also young Slater was very weird looking, which I guess was appropriate here).

This is true of every historical period. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
