Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

I’d rather it be a vapid doll story than what you described. Ick.

Why does every movie have to have some greater or deeper political point? I watch movies because I want to be entertained. If I wanted to be informed or educated, I’d watch a documentary. Even when I agree with the points, I find them annoying when they’re so in your face.

Sometimes, I wonder if movie directors and producers forget that they’re in the entertainment industry.

Good movies do both. Gerwig is a master at it.

The movie has been a running joke on Twitter after behind the scenes shots were leaked. By the looks of it, I think it will be entertaining.

Don’t know why an X-Men reboot is needed, but yes to this, please?

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen an actor who is so friendly, happy, and upbeat in everyday life and then plays scary villain after scary villain so masterfully.

It’s “needed” because Disney paid a lot of money to get the film rights from Fox, and now they want to start making the money back.

Maybe Patrick Stewart is no longer interested in being Prof. X. Good time to reboot the whole franchise and bring on younger, hotter actors.

Barbie just looks like goofy fun with incredible talent, idk what else you could want from a movie.

It’s not. It’s Hollywood cashing in on another old IP with a dedciated fan base.

The cynic in me thinks that they’ll make some changes to “update” it for the time we live in and boom another billion for them.

I mean I hope it kicks ass but I’ve tried with a recent run of superhero reboots and I’m just not feeling it.

Correct. When you pay billions for licenses, you want a return

Horrible take. This is gonna be great

There’s a lot of interesting stories that could be told. How well they fair after they go through the Marvel movie machine is a question.

X Men with Fox was weird. Logan was a classic. I thought Days of Future Past and First class were quite good. The original was great for 2000 but feels old now. But Apocalypse was just bad, first two wolverine were awful. Both dark Phoenix movies sucked.

Still no Squirrel Girl movie v_v

Legion was very good. Not a movie but the semi prestige TV format let them expand what kinds of stories they could tell and how to tell them. In the same vein, without the prestige aspect, The Gifted was terrible

New Mutants movie was wasn’t terrible, but wasn’t good either, so was wasted.

Watched the pilot, liked it then forgot about it. Great use of “She’s a rainbow.”

I like Greta Gerwig. I expect Barbie to be bad.

So I went down a rabbit hole of best ‘b movies’

This was at Number 3 and I’m laughing so hard it’s actually hurting. Has anyone seen this whole movie?

MOT

Oh yeah, I’ve seen the Rifftrax commentary version of it. It’s basically on par with The Room, but not as much charm.
