Cassavetes’s big strength is uncompromisingly realistic interpersonal scenes. Doing that in a movie about a marriage involving mental illness is a bold move. This movie is great, but it’s honestly a touch hard to watch IMO.
finally watching no way home and all i can think is there’s no fucking way aunt may can afford that NY apartment
The drama surrounding the Flash movie is way more interesting than the movie would have been. Apparently he’s on the run from the cops now.

The poker/gambling content is the least of this movie’s problems imo. In general I’ll watch Oscar Isaac read the paper, so that mostly made it bearable, but that’s all it has going for it. I have never seen Tiffany Haddish in anything else, but holy crap she is terrible. Maybe intimidated by Isaac? The plot, such as it is, is confounding. But it doesn’t veer completely off the tracks until the ending, which somehow came in well below my already low expectations.
I just watched it this weekend as well, and largely agree. Isaac is solid as always but isn’t given particularly great material (and the poker scenes suck - but I guess it’s tough when you’re having your pro play a donkament and trying to show how super talented he is). Rest of cast is very bad.
The story is boring, but at least it’s mostly straightforward. I guess idea of ending was to have story come full circle, but didn’t think it was well executed.
I believe this and/or people involved with it won awards at film festivals.
Buddies wanted to see Top Gun, I said sure.
Halfway through, one buddy goes to the bathroom and takes a long time. When he gets back, he says cops and a canine unit were in a nearby theater and it took a while to get back in.
I have to go piss too, when I leave the room there is a cop standing there with gun drawn. Pointed at floor, thankfully. He says “you can go to the bathroom, but you can’t come back.” Then he says they’re emptying the showing anyway. They shuffle us to the bar area but won’t let us leave for 15 minutes. SWAT and cops everywhere.
Some guys stole a car and rolled it, then ran into the theater to hide, I don’t think the suspects killed anyone or anything, not sure why there was such a manhunt.
The first half of the movie was pretty stupid, but entertaining enough I suppose.
Thats pretty scary.
Holy crap.
Get the Runpee app. Thank me later.
RRR is like the Crouching Tiger for the new generation. What an absolute masterpiece.

We had the theater to ourselves for Everything Everywhere All at Once. I give it 5 bags of popcorn on the Beetlejuice scale. What an incredibly fun couple of hours.
Saw Liam Neeson’s Honest Thief a while ago. I’ve seen a few of Neeson’s post-Taken action flicks, and this is easily the worst. It has almost no artistic merit, a non-sensical plot, and Robert Patrick is completely wasted.
Surprisingly, the critical reception for this movie is slightly better than most of his recent output. Has anyone seen any of this other shit (aside from MIB: International)?
Is he just cranking out low budget action films for the global market? That’s a good way for over the hill actors to make some money. It’s very easy - Bruce Willis did it with dementia.
Yup. Looks like Neeson is gonna go the same route Steven Seagal did. Dog shit action films where he does next to nothing himself.
It’s the path most past-their-prime actors go if they don’t have any classic IPs to revive or reboot for a quick buck
Looks like it. Honest Thief is on par with those 90s straight-to-video movies that only got made because the lead actor has some name recognition. Neeson is doing like two of these a year. I only watched it because it came up on a streaming service.
The Grey was pretty good and probably when he still tried to make good movies. I can’t think of any after The Dark Knight Rises. A Walk Among The Tombstones was okay but utterly forgettable.
Run all Night was an entertaining recent Neeson movie, basically Taken though.
Liam Neesons though
If you need a decent Liam Neeson vehicle, I thought Widows was a fun little heist movie.
