Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

Eh, I don’t think he’s any more awful than anyone else really. We just watched it Saturday and came to the same conclusion at the end: the movie just flat out has no script. Like, it was an afterthought. But somehow the movie still works. Kind of like how 2001 worked.

And Days of Thunder! Same director too god rest. Damn he packed some work into the 80s.

It really has no script.

The homoerotic volleyball scene is so out of place too in a movie so heavily aimed at young straight men. I’d love to understand the thinking behind it.

There are several weirdly homoerotic lines/scenes like that:

Goose and Mav making their “bet” in the bar (“carnal knowledge, with a woman this time”) plus Hollywood and his reel (Tim Robbins?) talking about erections multiple times.

Also Mav’s replacement reel after Goose died was a black guy named “Sundown” lol racism was fun and hilarious in the 80s.

BTW when is the new movie set? Because at the end of the last one, he’s already a Top Gun instructor in 1986. That means he’s been in the Navy for like 40 years and is up against mandatory retirement age and likely already mandatory age for not being able to fly planes anymore (I’m guessing) if it’s set in the present day.

I imagine they’ll fudge the timeline a little, and maybe even say something like “he’s retired (or at least working some desk gig) but he’s the only one up to this particular task, so Jon Hamm needs to go convince him to do this one last job.”

Every action movie in the 80’s had beefy shirtless dudes. It was the style at the time.

Yeah it’s incredible. I’m definitely a big fan of his work. His career is long and distinguished, like my johnson.

So much this. The end of the training montage in Rocky III definitely felt out of place.

Creed and Rocky frolicking in the ocean before embracing each other with a big hug seems like something that would start a gay porn scene.

Really enjoyed the first ~half of Everything Everywhere All at Once but then felt like it dragged on for about an hour too long while it beat its schlocky sentiment into the ground. Needed more Hitchhiker’s Guide and less Joy Luck Club. 7/10

Stumbled over a teaster for Prey and I already cant await.

Went and watched it. It’s got Amber Midthunder so that raises my confidence.

Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, “Prey” is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.

Wait is that…

I should have guessed by the laser lights

Looks very cool but honestly this sounds like it would be a much better setup if it wasn’t associated with the Predator franchise.

I dony know if im a stupid moron or what, but I cannot find reliable info on when Everything Everywhere is going to hit streaming. Ive seen as early as today (False at least according to availability right now on Amazon) and as late as June 18, but my google fu is failing me. Anybody have a clue here?

It just showed up yesterday on the various non-legal channels, and that usually happens roughly a week before streaming.

Seeing TC’s face yesterday it seems that finally he’s starting to show signs of aging ?

I’m not a fan of 80s Tom Cruise (might be the most annoying smile ever). That movie is worth it just for the Forest Whitaker scene though, so great.

He’ll fix that. He’ll get scientology cosmetic surgery and thank LRH at the next IAS meeting.
