I’ve been reserving judgement but I am surprisingly optimistic about this, and the RT numbers are proving that out as possibly being the correct option.
I would never make money betting against Akiva as a Producer/Director/Writer. He absolutely nailed, Hot Rod, Popstar and Palm Springs, so Im keeping my fingers crossed for this.
Oh this is the movie Talladega Nights is making fun of. Watching his you can see all the things that Will Ferrell was making fun. The machismo, the odd racing culture, the gruff mechanic and the hot shot new racer.
Strictly speaking Talladega Nights is a better movie though, setting aside that one’s a comedy and the others a drama. This movie isn’t well thought out. John Reilly just delivers lines, Carey Elwes’s character is never developed, the Randy Quade’s motivations are just odd. There’s a scene where, since Tom Cruise and Mickey Rourke both don’t want carpool to a dinner they both race rental cars, smashing them and riding on the beach, until they get to the dinner, both cars totaled.
In spite of all that the movie has so much testosterone dripping from it that even in the scenes that dont make much sense the vibes from the scene carry it and by extension the movie though.
My hot movie take is that The Batman has the best car chase scene we’ve seen in the past twenty years. Iconic, just looks incredible, every shot slaps.
I think it was the first Bourne that has a good one
Mad Max Fury Road is one long chase
MI Ghost protocol has a fun one
I’m a sucker for the opening scene of Drive
Matrix reloaded scene still holds up
Fast and Furious ones have like zero cinematography. Why the ones for The Batman and MI: Fallout are great is because they are shot so well, more than going for ridiculous action and pushing the envelope in “oh, there’s a tank/sub.”
All the Bourne movies used (and abused) the crappy technique of shaking the camera and cutting every half second to suggest action without ever bothering to show any. It’s such an awful gimmick.
Déjà vu (Tony Scott 2006 movie with Denzel) has a pretty cool car chase where one car is in the past.
I think this only started with Bourne 2, it’s been ages since I saw them but I remember really liking the first one and I hate the style that you describe.
The Jackass movies and TV shows are some of my guiltiest pleasures when it comes to entertainment. It’s so utterly stupid but at the same time they’re having so much fun that you can’t help but laugh yourself.
Oh shit, it is not a good movie to watch drunk. Clovis is right, the randomness has a point and is therefore not random at all. But you have to watch it very well in order to pick all of it up
