A meh from me. At its heart it’s a Marvel movie and they while they let Sam Raimi have his flourishes, and flourishes here are things that a horror movie needs like a lot of deaths, legit deaths as in people sliced in half or heads exploring with visceral gore, it’s still like 80% Marvel, which means they just don’t stray enough from the formula to make what they were aiming for, a horror movie with super heroes, interesting. After so many movies you really can see the nuts and bolts behind the slap of director paint they throw on.

idk if any if you guys like old-timely stuff, but Morocco is an absolutely outstanding pre-code gem. Big Casablanca energy with Marlene Dietrich as a stone-cold boss who befuddles a hot young Gary Cooper. Lots of quiet lingering shots and snappy dialogue and an iconic scene where Marlene puts on a top hat and coattails.

Never seen the movie, but am, let’s say, familiar with the photo. May have to finally watch the source material.

It’s wild stuff, I kind of undersold how horny and genderbending this movie is. Marlene kisses a woman full-on the mouth, flicks her top hat, and tosses Gary Cooper a flower. The pre-code movies are always wild and they make me wonder what society would be like today if the horny police hadn’t cracked down on films like this.

Trying hard to outfox Gary Cooper? Super duper!

It’s like in 1930 you could make a movie where a hot chick cross-dresses and kisses another chick but thirty years later TV sitcoms had to show husbands and wives having separate beds so you knew they weren’t fucking. The horny police set America back thirty years of horniness.

Saw a large multi generational family out for Mother’s Day yesterday. Had the odd thought to comment that the everyone there was a product of their Mom fucking. (But of course I left that thought inside my head).

Those codes just reinforced the GD Puritan bullshit that is behind so much of the ills of this country.

people really showed up for dr. strange, giving it a bigger opening than the batman.

I bet the week two sales go down though

A COVID movie that primary occurs though Facetime videos. Natalie Morales does good. She’s got charisma and Mark Duplass does his thing. But being that this all happens on Facetime screens I’d say the chemistry is not really there. I mean it’d probably be nearly impossible to generate that kind of charisma strictly through people monologuing, but still. The story wasn’t that interesting either.

Yeah, im gonna say -50% minimum. Word of mouth seems like it might not be great

Loved her in her small role on Parks & Rec.

It tries to be interesting but doesn’t really work.
